  1. Only (!) 704,000 men from the British Isles were killed in ww1. And they did not spend years in the trenches. British troops were rotated out every week or so except when major offensives were underway. We have lost contact with the reality of ww1. It was awful but not as theatrically awful as we imagine we know it to be. Get a grip on reality everyone. And the British army won the first world war in 1918
