@oneManDev the world dynamics was different. China was not mature enought to contest US. US was not stirring up trouble in its back yard. Russia was not in the same place it is today. You can bet the US would be a lot more stressed than the war in Iraq.

@oneManDev Russia is balancing cooperating with Iran and not upsetting the balance with Israel too much right now. China is still looking at how it deals with the US interference in Taiwan which is internationally recognised as part of China officially but a separate entity unofficially. Neither needs to make a move right now. No need to. If US starts a war with Iran the situation changes. Then you will see them get in just to put some additional pressure on the US just as the US has done to them. Looks like US and Russia is cutting a deal on the Ukraine war. If so it will fizzle out soon enough.

@marmot418 that was just an excuse to invade. Anyway a lot of the Azov are dead. Of course they may have inspired the younger generation to follow them.

Surprisingly balanced review.

Hopefully some of the commenters on the war will see this and understand why proximity is important. Why its an issue for nukes in Cuba or Ukraine.

Amazing that people could design crap and get away with it.

@runnergo1398 Russia is democratic. It would be a disaster if they put in airheads like the EU leaders.

@runnergo1398 fortunately for me I have something called google. Clearly you are not smart enough to use it. Please seek some training and google elections in Russia. In fact Putin is way more popular among Russians than any western leader I can think off. Hopefully you learnt something about being an a__ on the net.

@runnergo1398 you are not too smart. Clearly you do not know how to research on the internet. Go and learn that first then come back.

@marmot418 actually it seems the Russians learnt the strategy works if you throw enough manpower at it. Seems like that is the plan again.
1
@marmot418 I think it was seen inside Russia too. People like something palatable even if they know its a lie and politicians the world over are masters at that. Even a blatant lie works for a percentage of the population. Trump for example did a lot of that and he still got and has support. Just how some human minds work.

Really good explanation. Thanks.

This is the most realistic denial that its likely the US. William Spaniel's version was jokey. You did not deal with the possible German change of mind this winter. Now that the pipelines cannot support Germany this winter they have no option to negotiate with Russia. That's the most persuasive reason for the US to risk the action.

@mombaassa interesting that Germany has enough gas to cover all their needs. I have not seen any pro western channels cover this. So much lying on the net too its hard to say what is real unless both sides acknowledge something. The landlocked nations you called are not relevant. If they join NATO it make little difference. Russia will postulate but in reality they don't care. Even Finland and Sweden are unimportant. They were already almost NATO and would have gotten a much more protection. Also they are not a viable part to a Russian invasion. Bad terrain and no serious road network that cannot be defended. Ukraine on the other has is a whole different matter. If Ukraine goes to NATO Russia is "compromised", at least from their point of view.

So why won't two layers of explosive armour work. With a separation of course.

I am betting a lot of those weapons will end up in Russia and China. Expect them to be reverse engineered soon. That said they do not appear to be cutting edge so maybe nothing is lost if China gets a few to peek at.
