Putin is showing great restraint. I suspect its to avoid alienating India and China. If he really wanted to he could have leveled a small city as an example. The fact that people can come out to protest is testament to how much kid gloves are being used.

@mickowens9839 its good for them strategically but that city is fighting tooth an nail. Unless they get all the fighters out and repopulate its going to be hard to keep. Ukraine won't stomach that easily either. I think its a tough sell.

@quatjohn4375 Ukraine stands no chance. So far Putin has not escalated to using tactical nukes. Its better for him to wait lest he looses the "neutrality" of China and India. He is just balancing the pressure needed to get the idiot to capitulate.

@quatjohn4375 Putin's actions are not guided by NATO anymore. I doubt he cares what NATO thinks. They are now irrelevant. They did as much as they can do and it did not work. Their only option is to go in which ends in WWIII. I think they acted stupid each trying to outdo the other. Wrong play. But then again watch the actual leaders and how their own internal political situation improved from over sanctioning. I think the reason he has not used a tactical nuke yet is because he does not want to alienate India and China. They are Russia's future now.

@quatjohn4375 I respectfully disagree. NATO would be stupid to engage but yes Putin has to keep an eye on the skies and he probably has a finger on the red button. I believe NATO is smart enough to know not to push too much more. Lets really hope there are no glitches in the equipment on any side. No one is in a trusting mood right now.

@sands7779 Mariupol is required. Can't have a war and do nothing. Some action is needed to force the Ukrainian position at the table. Kyiv has been largely spared so far. If Ukraine keeps it up he may have to start dismantling that city.

@danhtran6401 if America didn't help there is a good possibility England would have fallen. Germany would have been fighting on one side alone. If they won America was doomed. Their tech was so much better they would have sit in England and shell the whole of America.

And China will continue to develop its own monetary systems. Clearly if you are not a friend of the west they will seize your assets and block you from SWIFT. If they have aspirations to take over Taiwan they need to. Many "unfavourable" nations will probably join too.

@derks0 that would be sad for the west since they barely manufacture anything and what they do cost and arm and a leg. Their quality of life will go down drastically and it will be all due to their own stupidity.

@derks0 I think you misunderstand the scale of the items China supplies. Anyway it should be fine for the moment. They playing the long game in my opinion. I could be wrong on that though.

@derks0 maybe not that much in the US but in many places in the world they do buy their stuff. They are almost on par with the west in many areas. Of course they are far behind in others. But they will do ok even without the west. Of course no point giving up the cash cow for now. Stay low, develop some more. The time will come though and its going to be problems.
