  1.  @fw1421  When the Smithsonian was given the 229 around 1950 it sat in open storage in a wooden crate until the 1970s. That is why the majority of the wood has been eaten into powder from fungus. They should really just duplicate the rotted wood parts instead of gluing it back together.
