The examiners found a sleep aid in his system, and they thought that it had slowed his reaction timing and contributed to the crash. The canopy enclosure could not be fully opened upside down and the plane did not have emergency canopy release mechanisms or escape mechanisms. Eddie did not wear a helmet or fire-resistant clothing. The fire engulfed the fuselage and cockpit within 1.5 minutes and Eddie was found laying against the cockpit canopy and likely died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
