Except that knife crime increase isn’t caused by immigration. Here are the actual facts; Ministry of Justice Data show that foreign nationals made up around 12% of the total prison population in England and Wales. However, the MoJ data does not suggest that foreign nationals are overrepresented in violent crime, including knife crime, when adjusting for population size. Most knife crime offenders are British-born citizens.
Knife crime has been rising in some parts of the UK, but studies and statistics consistently show that immigration is not a key driver of this trend. Instead, knife crime is more closely associated with youth violence, gangs, and drug-related activities, which are fueled by social and economic factors such as deprivation and inequality.
While some politicians and media outlets might claim a direct link between immigration and knife crime, the evidence does not support this. The focus should instead be on tackling the underlying causes of violent crime, which often affect marginalized communities, regardless of immigration status.
