  1. Sparta was a socialist collectivist nation. They reviled the free market, raised the kids collectively, and used force to get the labor they needed. It is no surprise that they did not last long. Socialist, centrally planned economies that do not defend individual freedom and free markets tend not to last very long. They are less productive and less able to react to change. Slaves are much less productive than willing entrepreneurs and land-owning farmers. Free nations last longer.
