We are over-regulated. And the min wage law will hurt employment for lower skilled workers. It will hurt the very people they are trying to help. More automation will be used, and fewer hours.

County government is way too big. They need to reduce spending and fire people. They should not increase taxes. Instead, they should REDUCE property taxes. People are hurting.

That's insane.

@erauprcwa Who earns min wage? High skill workers? I think not. The PURPOSE of the min wage is to increase the income of low-skilled workers. But that is not the real effect. The real effect is to reduce job opportunities for low-skilled workers, to reduce the number of hours offered, and to increase incentives for automation. In order to reduce the "wage gap" we need sound money. The wage gap started increasing in 1972. I'm sure you've seen the charts. What else happened in 1972? Nixon tool the US off the Gold standard. This allowed the government to inflate the currency at a higher rate. Rich people have investments that keep up with inflation. Real Estate, Stocks, Gold, etc. Poor people depend on wages and salaries, and these go up with inflation much more slowly. Ron Paul was right. End the Fed.

Icy roads might also have been a factor in this tragedy...

@moloono1 After the State Supreme Court violated I-976 for $30 car tabs in 2019, lots of people refuse to pay for new tabs. I admire them.

@bobroberts2371 Your right to liberty is your right to do whatever you like so long as you are not significantly hurting another person or damaging or taking their stuff. When I travel across state lines, I am not hurting anyone else. Right to liberty comes from self-ownership. It is defended in the 5th and 14th amendments to the US constitution, and there are also references to the right to liberty in the wa state constitution. Driving is a right. If the government is preventing you from peacefully traveling, then they are violating our rights.

How 'bout private non-profits running jitneys for the poor, and funding them through private donations?
2
@moloono1 The first $30 pays for the license plate tab system. The next few hundred dollars pays for Sound Transit, a boondoggle that few people use, and that has not, and will not reduce traffic congestion on I-5.
2
@moloono1 They should. But instead they give the money to contractors who gave them campaign contributions.

They lied to us.

I live North of Lynnwood and commute to Seattle each day. Every time I pass one of the new light-rail trains, I count the passengers, or try to estimate how full the trains are. Most of the time they are less than 10% full. Only once have I seen a full train. A few times, I saw half-full trains. My bet is, whatever they promised us that they would achieve in ridership was a total lie and will never be even 50% achieved. They lied to us to sell us their boondoggle. They got campaign contributions from construction contractors. Lots of people are hoping that OTHER people will use this train, but it is not happening. And we are still getting robbed for this via our vehicle tabs.

@xx5zi They have the right to bear arms. They just don't have the right to threaten or shoot peaceful people. That's why they were arrested, not for keeping and bearing arms.

@mtfoxtrot5296 My bet is that you don't work for min wage, and haven't for over a decade. As for the Fed, I propose to replace it with Bitcoin, Gold and Silver.

@KillersWalkFree Because the amount you earn should NOT be forced on you and your employer by the government. Instead, your wage should be a function of how much skill you have, how rare those skills are, how needed those skills are in the market, and how well you yourself negotiate. And what I am trying to tell you and others is that establishing a government-forced minimum wage hurts those with the least skills. It destroys their job opportunities. It is like cutting off the bottom rung on the ladder of success. You get a minimum wage job and you establish yourself as a good employee who shows up on time, works hard, and is reliable. Then you get a better job and use the first boss as a recommendation. There should be no minimum wage for two reasons: 1) it violates our freedom of contract, and 2) it tends to hurt the very people it purports to help.

@maestrovso I live in the area. On the day of the crash, there was ice on the road. Also, there is ice on the road in the video. Not saying she was not drunk, and that that was not a factor. Just saying that ice on the road might ALSO have been a factor. If you are drunk, you are less able to handle icy road conditions. See the video at 0:48. You can see the ice on the road and the snow on the grass. Seattle people tend not to be good at driving in snow, and the ice we get here is particularly slick. It is not hard-packed snow. Instead, the rain on the roads freezes during the night, and makes black ice. VERY hard to drive on.

I drive by there all the time. Yikes! Glad they caught the guy. I hope he spends a long time in prison. So sorry for the victim's family.

We need more nuclear, natural gas, and hydro power in WA. The alternative is increased poverty. But Amazon only wants to power it's AWS server farms. It cares nothing for residential power consumers.
