  5. Regarding that chart of income inequality around 28:00, another thing happened at the very bottom, in 1972: the US went off the Gold Standard. Thanks, Nixon. This meant governments could spend at faster rates and create inflation. Rich people insulate themselves from this inflation with investment assets. But the poor and middle class can't protect themselves. Their wages and salaries grow slower than inflation.
