@todaywelearned And who gets the power to determine what "hate speech" is? Sorry, that's a power I don't want to leave to any authority.

Absolutely. Well said! Censorship is what Fascists do.

@lebronjohnson6735 I didn't say he would "deserve" a spot on Rogan's show. My position is that if Hitler, or any person whether good like you and me, or evil like Hitler or Stalin or Mao, came back and Joe Rogan wanted to interview them, there should be no government censor to prohibit that interview. Rogan decides who "deserves" to appear on his show. Not you or me, and especially not the government. Censorship is what fascists do. If we are not to be fascists, like Hitler, then we also have to stop advocating fascist policies, like censorship. Even against those we disagree with.

@vincentd.2284 Lots of people advocate laws that restrict free speech today. Lots of Democrats do. In Canada and Great Britain, people are prosecuted for what they say or post in social media all the time. And Johnny Harris himself in the video asks whether this kind of speech should be allowed. The presumption is that it is the government that would restrict it, since Johnny can't.

@bryna7 Yep. I even defend the right to freedom of speech for Musk and Desantis. I also deny their authority to censor speech. Now, the two are different in this way: Desantis is a government authority, but Musk is a private authority. Desantis is limited by the first amendment, and Musk, with regards to X or Twitter, is not. But the very reason I prefer Twitter over something like, Facebook, is my perception that Musk allows more freedom of speech on Twitter, than Zuckerberg allows on Facebook. I quit Facebook, and joined Twitter for this reason.

Freedom of Speech was put in to the First Amendment, and not the Second or Third or whatever, for a REASON. There is no right not to be offended. If you disagree with someone, the solution is not to employ the force of government and it's guns against the people you disagree with. The solution is a reasoned response.

I disagree with most of what Alex Jones says, but I defend his right to free speech, and I am glad that Joe Rogan had him on. Censorship is what Fascists do.

@vincentd.2284 Actually, there are LOTS of people who want to restrict hate speech by law. Most Democrats in the US do. Canada and the UK do it all the time. Censorship is central to this discussion. I won't disagree with you that a wise moderator will use discretion. But the moderator must live by the consequences of their choices. Our recourse is to boycott, and the moderators know that. I defend Rogan's right to interview Hitler-like people. And I reserve the right to join you in a boycott if he crosses the line.

@HappyBirthday0707 I generally agree with you, as long as the recourse for moderators like Rogan interviewing people as bad as Hitler is not government censorship, but instead organized boycotts by listeners. I might join you in a boycott if Rogan crosses the line. But no one should be set up with the power to censor. That is the very fascism we are trying to avoid.

Johnny Harris just wants to shut down people he disagrees with. But one of the reasons I like Joe Rogan is that he defends freedom of speech. There is only one way out of the problems of society, and all the hate and conflict: and that is free, open speech and discussion.
