Indeed. Preparing an amphibious assault larger than D-Day is not going to be easy to hide. And if Taiwan is sounding the alarm bells while it is happening, many folks would NOT blame them for preempting the invasion provided that they only targeted the munitions like Ukraine did early in the HIMARS deployment.

@peterwebb8732 I don't disagree. I think we are on the same page, just looking at different aspects in the lead up to an actual placement of PLA boots on Taiwanese soil.

The Japanese in WW2 were able to turn the Islands they held into warrens capable of housing tanks and artillery pieces. Taiwan being so much bigger can just as easily be a maze of tunnels and pill boxes against an invasion force.

Most US munitions don't rely soley on GPS. If they lose signal, they would switch to other targeting sensors such as radiation seeker (mimicking a HARM).

@kentershackle1329 The PLAAF is untested in combat. And Chinese ASW is pathetically bad. Both of those facts means that China could very quickly loose the battle for control of the seas.

China's ASW is pathetically bad. The subs would wreck Chinese shipping just like WW2 against the Japanese. USS Albacore is the record to beat and against China, there may be enough for several subs to beat it.

The thing with jamming is that it makes it easier for a radiation seeker to target. That is what the HARM missile is for.

@kemarisite Almost all of the GPS JDAMs have visual or infrared back-up targeting systems. Some have that radiation seeker in the event they get jammed. As for the HARMs on Soviet aircraft, the Poles and the Czechs had already figured out how to get the MiG-29 and HARM to talk to each other years ago. Essentially, the HARM spoofs being a Soviet R-27 anti-radiation missile. It is only a recent development that the Sukoi-27 can now use them also believing that they are R-27 missiles. Interestingly, most US munitions do have the flexibility to be programed to "talk Russian" to Soviet aircraft if said aircraft cannot be programed to talk "NATO". It may limit their capabilities, but that is just one package of software "upgrades".
