  11. Most of the power that comes from nukes is in the threat of using them. Once unleashed, they lose much of that power as the effect is expended. An opponent unfazed by nuclear threats will not stop once it actually is delivered.

  26.  @Nightss  Ukrainian casualties are recoverable, especially when the time from frontlines to emergency trauma centers in rear areas is AT MOST 36 hours. Contrast that to Russian casualties when their EVAC time is a MINIMUM of 3 days. Tank numbers don't mean anything when what Russia is sending to the front lines are T-64 and T-72 tanks built almost have a century ago. As for artillery, Ukraine makes EVERY shot count by limiting to counter-battery fire. Rarely do they miss. Conversely, Russia has to use as many as 20 shells to hit a target. With drastically different accuracy rates like that, Russia's artillery advantage becomes irrelevant. You need to stop listening to KREMLIN propaganda and start reading the Insitute for the Study of War as well as the Royal United Services Insitute analysis.

  32. The problem with the peninsula is that it is marshy, meaning it is NOT good ground for combat operations. I suspect the Ukrainians are there simply to harass the Russia position from the flank and force them to commit resources to an area of otherwise no significant value.

  37. Agreed. The price of oil and gasoline has been decoupled since the 1980s. I guarantee that big Oil has storage for refined gasoline so that they are insulated in both directions from the fluctuations in price. One only needs to look at CITGO and its connection to Venezuela to understand this.

  40. You blame the US after pointing to Zelensky's comments. That is a non-sequitur. The US is tired of war after the disastrous fall of Kabul. The US didn't even want to give Ukraine war material when the invasion started. It was only the desperate defense of Kiev that convinced the US to start backing Ukraine. Your problem is that you refuse to accept that Ukraine has any agency in this fight. The fall of the Afghan National Army or the Failure of the ARVN is what happens when the US backs a side that doesn't want to fight. Why hasn't the UAF folded like they did?

Coordinate the actions of local forces, but the US does not need to waste blood and treasure in a part of the world that provides nothing of value.

To your bloviating point, for 30 years ALL of the world recognized Taipei as the legitimate Chinese government. Even the USSR agreed to that. That only changed because the US chose to recognized Beijing after Nixion visited. Then everyone changed to conform to that. Jerusalem was NOT recognized as the official capital of Isarel until Trump changed US policy and then suddenly the rest of the world stopped calling Tel Aviv the Israeli capital and acknowledged Jerusalem as the official capital. As far as the UN, the ONLY reason why it continues to exist is because of the US. The minute the US chooses to boot them from their compound in New York City is the moment the organization implodes just like its predecessor the League of Nations did. Learn your history.

  48. I disagree. The Ukrainians should NOT endanger Russian citizens but instead make it absolutely clear their dispute is with Putin and the Kremlin, not the Russian people. If doing that means helping the local population with small acts of kindness such as refilling someone's tank of gas who ran out.

  50. Considering that Zelensky was used as a campaign prop, he SHOULD be looking uncomfortable. Despite the overall anti-war position of Trump supporters, many are actually VERY sympathetic to Ukraine's plight. They just don't want American blood spilled over the whole affair. Zelensky shilling for Que-mala greatly damaged that sympathy.
