@joemamaobama6863 Or because the policies that lead to this ecological disaster came out of the Kremlin. Local control and decision making only really started after 1991.

Because most of the policies that lead to this ecological disaster were directed from the Kremlin. Local control over the area only really started after 1991 when the USSR broke up.

Yes and no. The USSR wasn't exclusively Russia and Russia is not all of the USSR. But almost all decision making came from the Kremlin rather than the local Commissariat.

@fx3dv2vg7m Nice apples to oranges false analogy dude. You equating the USSR with Czarist Russia shows gross intellectual dishonesty. Incidentally, folks like to claim that RUSSIA defeated Hitler and the Nazis. Why ignore the other Soviet Republics? It is absolutely appropriate to equate the USSR with Russia rather than Ukraine, Kazakhstan or the rest. Do keep in mind that it was often Russian troops that kept the local minority populations in line, even in the nominally "minority-majority" Soviet Republics.

The Russia Soviet dominated the USSR. Nearly all decision making came from the Kremlin rather than the local Commissariat.
2
You do realize that the Russian Soviet dominated the USSR until its breakup in 1991? And until then, nearly ALL of the decision making was made by the Kremlin, not the local Commissariat. Only after 1991 can you truly start placing blame on the locals.
2
The problem with Russia has always been bad leadership. There have been good ones, but they are rarely allowed to reach heights of power where they could make a change for the better.

Lop Nur in China.

@Lilhajxjk274 The Russian Soviet dominated the Union. Nearly all decision making came out of the Kremlin, not the local Commissariat. So, you are making a distinction without much of a difference.

Except the Salton Sea was created artificially, and completely by accident.

And what role would China have in either maintaining or destabilizing the region? Kazakhstan may want to attempt a balancing act between Beijing and Moscow, but Kygrgystan might decide to get in bed with the Chinese if they can guarantee that the Tajiks and Uzbeks not trouble them.
1
There is, but it is minor before 1991. The Russian Soviet dominated the Union until the collapse. Decision making was in the Kremlin, not the local Commissariat.

@alekxcrafter Sure, that is a real mature response. Name calling doesn't make your argument, it just proves you have nothing of value to say. "I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left." - Margaret Thatcher

All of the decisions in the old USSR were made out of the Kremlin, NOT the local Commissariat. So yeah, when Moscow was calling the shots before 1991, that means it was the Russian Soviet's fault.
1
@MartinEden-dq7mi Um, the Russian Soviet dominated the USSR. Most of the decision making came from the Kremlin, not the local Commissariat.

@Lilhajxjk274 And how much representation or influence did they actually have? Not much, really. Most of the "representation" was for optics and appearances.
1
Yeah, no. Ecological catastrophes by the Soviet Union dwarf even the worst caused by the US. Why? Because the Soviet government never cared about public outcry the way the US government does.

@calitaliarepublic6753 You realize that the American Bison recovered, and in numbers today not seen since BEFORE human migration into North America? Seems to me you chose to ignore that dirty little detail which shows that we HAVE corrected that particular issue. As for the Dust Bowl, that had quite a bit to do with government intervention in the markets creating the economic conditions that lead to the crisis. And it was also resolved in larger part to actions in the private sector rather than the government. Again, you are only telling half the story. Deepwater Horizon still has yet to be fully assessed, and like most things, you hypochondriacs assume the worst and refuse to adjust your stance when later data disproves your hysterics. Nuclear Weapons testing contamination? That is NOTHING compared to the Kyshtym disaster (aka Mayak Disaster). I can forgive you for not being familiar with that incident because it occurred in the 1950s-1970s under the veil of Soviet censorship. Sure, you can go on, but I suspect that like the example you used, they are overblown and exaggerated for propagandistic reasons.
1
@calitaliarepublic6753 Wow, triggered much? And I love how you use the racist "noble savage" to argue your position on the American Bison. Pointing out that the full magnitude of the effects from Deepwater Horizon is not fully known is NOT a non-sequitur, it is pointing out the obvious gaps in the data sets. How about you actually learn what a non-sequitur is instead of trying to use fancy words that you think make you sound smart.
1
@calitaliarepublic6753 And again you bloviate and use your own non-sequiturs to say, "America bad". I got news for you, the fact that the US is the top destination for migrants completely disproves your anti-US narrative. Yes, the US is flawed, but it is far and away better than every other example you could possibly hold up.
1
@calitaliarepublic6753 And again another proof by verbosity and gish gallop But thank you for once again proving that you are just spewing neo-Soviet talking points about "evil capitalist America". Nobody is buying your drivel.
