Comments by "David Ford" (@davidford3115) on "Has Ukraine Lost the War?" video.
The phrase "setting up for failure" comes to mind. NATO teaches the Ukrainians combined arms, and they fails to provide them the critical air component of that system. Fortunately, the Ukrainians have taken the elements they CAN use and have hybridized it with their Warsaw-Soviet system into something that is surprisingly effective and given the west something to consider going forward.

@burnttoast9890 Truth doesn't care about your feelings. Truth is OBJECTIVE, not subjective as many would like to believe. People who parrot Kremlin talking points on cue like Pavlov's Dog are essentially bots.
9
From whom? The Russian Bots or the people pointing out the holes in the arguments of Negative Nacy?
8
When they realized they were not breaking through as planned, the UAF very quickly changed tactics, something the media blatantly ignored. Ukraine pulled out the playbook of the WW1 Battle of Broodseinde. "Nibble and Hold" became the new plan and it HAS been more successful than its implementation in WW1.

Kiev still stands. You claim that Ukraine lost carries no merit when the capital of Ukraine is independent of Moscow's control.
6
@SovietBelka "Right side of history"? Where have I heard that terminology before? Oh, yeah, from the 1930s when the apologists for the Third Reich claimed they were on the right side of history. People who have to make such an argument clearly are trying to persuade themselves because they don't believe their own claims. "The lady doth protest too much, me thinks" -Queen Gertrude; Act 3 scene 2; Hamlet, by William Shakespeare.
5
@dudeonyoutube "When the wise man points at the moon, the imbecil examines the finger," -Confucius. "Wisdom sounds like foolishness to the stupid" -attributed to Socrates. Guess who resembles those quotes?
5
True. The fact that Kiev still stands is already a victory. As for the other territory, it remains to be seen. Ukraine hasn't given up the fight yet so we may still see something shift, especially as Russia is having more and more partisan actions occur behind their lines.
3
@command_unit7792 The fact that Ukraine DID grind slowly forward isn't a failure, nor is it copium. Measured against WW1 trench warfare which is the closest analogue, the Ukrainians are moving faster than the Western Allies did against the Central Powers.
3
@Puma-ph5ep Apparently you have never heard the well know war proverb that dates from at least the time of Sun Tzu: "The best laid plans never survive contact with the enemy".
3
@burnttoast9890 Not that I subscribe to the philosophy, but Stalin believed you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. Considering that it is PUTIN who started the war, you should blame him for the carnage.
3
The Russian MOD has yet to actually face Polish, German, or US troops. Ukraine is fighting this essentially alone. The Foreign Legion doesn't count as NATO forces; it is more akin to the French Foreign Legion, but for Ukraine.
2
@sonneh86 Poland IS the top provider in Europe, bar none. The UK is number two. Your numbers are a shell game to make yourself feel better about Europe's dithering. "Figures don't lie, but liars figure," -Mark Twain.
2
@sonneh86 Mine come from Perun's defense logistics channel. He aggregates the data and doesn't just rely on one single source.
2
@louisecorchevolle9241 How about you make a coherent argument instead of emotional outbursts?
2
So you agree with Nevile Chamberlain that appeasement is the best option?
2
@thundermarkperun1083 If you are talking about Russian conscripts, you would be correct.
2
Then why hasn't Russia steamrolled Ukraine yet? Spare me, Russia can't keep up with its losses. The Bear is geriatric.
2
Don't forget that they have pulled out the lessons from WW1's trench warfare (Bite and Hold ala Battle of Broodseinde), which has been much more effective than the media wants to admit.
1
Israel has free and open elections. Hell, there are even Arab Muslim members of the Knesset. It is a shame you don't hold the Arabs who call themselves Palestinian to the same rigorous standard. Hamas has refused to hold an election in over a decade.
1
Indeed. The former Warsaw Pact members of NATO know what is at stake, and they have ALWASY been appreciative to the US. Can't say the same from Western Europe who have freeloaded off the US and been derelict in their responsibilities to NATO (save for maybe the UK)
1
@sonneh86 Yeah, that number includes the material that POLAND provided to Ukraine. That is the dirty little detail that you chose to ignore. Take the Poles out of the equation and your number falls painfully short.
1
@-Faze- "Lost more land"? You haven't been paying attention, only listening to Putin's propaganda machine.
1
@OLDACCOUNT740 You realize that any correlation IS an association? That doesn't immediately make it a fallacy. I did NOT make the insane troll logic argument that because Stalin liked dogs, that dogs are evil. What I DID point out is that ALL over the world's worst atrocities were caused by people who claimed they were on the right side of History, from Robespierre's Jaboins to the Third Teich, to the Soviet Union, to Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge. And the connecting thread is NOT a logical fallacy. So, learn to actually debate the merits. And touch grass while you are at it.
1
@@user-sm5qt1sn7s Nice chronological snobbery on your part (logical fallacy). And your "nobody has a clue what is going on" is you simply admitting that you can't actually argue the merits. It IS possible to know what is going on as Perun takes a look at the logistics, particularly the consumption of armor and artillery on the Russian side, which is unsustainable.
1
@oliveryt7168 I never claimed to own it, much less have a monopoly as propagandists often claim. That was you making a false assumption. I am simply dispelling myths and comforting falsehoods. And it would seem I clearly triggered you.
1
@UnKnownv5 So the EU is just supposed to roll over as Russia waltz to the Rhine River? Put down the Vodka private conscriptovich, you are drunk.
1
If the war was lost on day one, then why does Kiev still stand? You are drunk private conscriptovich.
1
@youruncledarnell Thank you for proving Confucius's point. "Better people THINK you a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt," -Mark Twain.
1
@youruncledarnell Spoken like the fool. The fact that Kiev is still a free city not occupied by Russia is proof that you have lost the plot. "When the wise man points to the moon, the imbecilic examines the finger," -Confucius Author of "The Analects."
1
Accuracy is more important than the number of shells fired. Even Russian Mill Bloggers are lamenting at how much better Ukrainian counter-battery fire is contrasted with Russia's own fires. If anything, you have been drinking the Kremlin's vodka. And it is making you hallucinate.
1
If the was war over as soon as it began, why does Kiev still stand? Besides, appeasement NEVER works; not in 1938, nor today. Put down the vodka private conscriptovich, you are drunk.
1
Then explain why Kiev still stands. Explain why Russia retreated across the Dniper with its tail between its legs. Explain the defeat of the 1st Guards Tank Army, the Pride of Moscow at Iysium.
1
@DougAldrichFan It took them over a year to take Bakhmut. It has taken them over FOUR years to simply surround Advika. They still have yet to reclaim Isyium after their pathetic and panicked flight which resulted in the T-90s of 1st Army Tank Guards in the hands of the UAF. So tell me again how Russia is regaining lost ground in a matter of days.
1
@AlmightyNOG Where are the NATO troops deployed on the front line? The ONLY thing from NATO that Russia is fighting is the equipment, not the personnel. Put down the vodka, you are drunk.
1
@zjpdarkblaze I never said that they did not. But they cannot expose those assets to the level of danger that close-air support requires. Only now that F-16s are on their way have the Ukrainians started being more aggressive and taking risks with the airframes they do have. And if the USAF is so hell-bent on getting rid of the A-10 Warthogs, I'm sure the Ukrainians would LOVE to make use of them.
1
@zjpdarkblaze The current Ukrainian Air Force consists of 1980s Warsaw Pact airframes. It is near impossible to replace those or find spare parts to keep them flying. The East German MIG-29 Fulcrums were first handed over to Poland in the mid 90s. And then the Poles started transferring those same German MIGs near the start of the invasion. F-16s while from the same time period are VASTLY better than their Soviet counterparts. Only now is Ukraine getting access to them, and it WILL show in the air campaign going forward.
1
@zjpdarkblaze I didn't say that. Again, you are jumping to false conclusions. With the Soviet equipment they do have, they have fought Russia to an effective stand-still. Both sides have achieved air-denial to the other, but otherwise the air campaign has not been the decisive factor that NATO doctrine assumes. Knowing that NATO aircraft are in the pipe, Ukraine can now afford to take greater risks with the Soviet Equipment they have because BETTER equipment is on its way to replace any losses. And when that equipment finally makes it to the battlespace, it will tip the balance in Ukraine's favor, breaking the aerial gridlock.
1
@zjpdarkblaze I didn't imply anything. That is you reading into something that just was not there. As for the Western Tanks, the UAF forces LOVE them, especially the crew survival rates. They HAVE made a difference. The offensive didn't make the breakthroughs last fall was not because the tanks didn't make a difference, it was because combined arms was missing the air component. And that just circles back to the original point.
1
@zjpdarkblaze Nice, resorting to ad hominin (personal attack) logical fallacy. I never said Ukraine didn't have an air component. Only that it was barely keeping up with the Russians, in no small part because it cannot afford to engage in the attritional battle that Russia insists on fighting. NATO aircraft, however CAN engage in that fight for a whole host of reasons.
1
@JL-tm3rc I don't disagree that the MiG Fulcrum is the superior fighter in a DOG FIGHT. And that assumes the MiG can achieve an ambush. But that is not what Ukraine needs right now. What they need is airframe numbers and stand-off distance.
1
@JL-tm3rc Yea, do the math. Western Pilots fly more hours in one month that Soviet Air Force Pilots fly in their entire career. That has ALWAYS been the difference between NATO pilots and Communist Block Nations. It is why Chuck Yeager was able to do things in a MiG-15 that were believed impossible by Soviet Pilots.
1
@JL-tm3rc Spoken like a child. Soviet Pilots exist. Thye just now claim Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakh, Uzbek, of Tajik nationality. The breakup of the Soviet Union did NOT change the fact that they were Soviet Air Force. But you clearly just want to "win", regardless of the facts or details. The fact that I am getting flak from BOTH the Russian bots and the Ukrainian Shills tells me I am over the target.
1
@DaCaRy1 Overkill is the only thing the Russians know. Or are you not away of how Marshal Zhukov conducted the Eastern Front in WW2? And that doesn't even begin to touch of the Soviet "Seven Days to the River Rhine" plan.
1
@DaCaRy1 Russia is following EXACTLY the Soviet playbook when it comes to conducting war. They have not changed one iota since then, having repeated the exact same plans in Grozny that they did in Afghanistan. And as far as nukes, that is an often grossly overplayed argument that has lost much of its value, mostly because those who use it don't understand that the great strength in nuclear weapons is the threat. Once used, it loses most of its value.
1
And you have only empty Kremlin talking points to back up your claim. By every reasonable measure, Ukraine is inflicting on Russia what the Winter War did to the Soviet Red Army.
