hikikomori is Japanese, nor Korean. But you are correct about the alcoholism and suicide rates. But it isn't unique to Korea as it is also seen in many other Asian cultures.

@JMM33RanMA Indeed. When I was stationed over there from 2009-2011, I came to realize that while the deepest, darkest, most desperate desire of the older population was reunification, the younger generations were much less enthusiastic about that. They perceived it as a nice idea, but one with serious difficulties that could threaten to destabilize their society and culture.

The Greeks culturally conquered the Romans as Roman culture basically became a continuation of the Greeks after the Latins conquered the Near East. Why do i bring this up? I see Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan very easily being to the West what Greece and Greek culture was to the Roman Empire.

Wow, someone needs to calm the hell down. Every nation has their radical elements, and every nation has its nationalistic streak. South Korea is NOT the expansionist ultranationalist bastion you make it out to be if only because they have been oppressed by their neighbors. For nearly its entire existence, the Chinese and Japanese have fought their wars in Korea, abusing the locals in the process. Most of the Korean independence movement during the 1910-1945 happen to be Christian which likely explains why the Koreans embraced the religion. Perhaps you should actually try learning their history before you start casting stones.

I think you miss the greater context of why the US had overseas bases. 1991 was when the USSR fell and the Iron Curtain came down. Until that point, there WAS a very real and justifiable reason. The nearly 50 yearlong Cold War didn't just occur in a vacuum.

Because Hollywerid decided to take a page out of 1930s Soviet "ministry of culture" where ideology and "right think" took priority over telling a good story. The Japanese, Koreans, and Taiwanese have managed to aquire that "secret sauce" of storytelling that Tinseltown has forgotten. And I hope our Asian allies bury the American industry.

@sociolocomtsac Indeed. Some of the best movies and TV series that came out of Hollywood were made on shoestring budgets. The classic Cowboy Western is archetypical of this, low budget and so focused more on story and plot than effects. And also, why those same productions also have more staying power over time. There is a reason why the Spaghetti Westerns are still watchable today.

Wow, talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees. You do realize that in the US, the Koreans have the HIGHEST small business ownership of any ethnic group at about 30%? I would argue that we should want MORE of that and less of the woke shit.
2
@DavidHalko Indeed. The Koreans, Japanese, and Taiwanese are filling the vacuum create by woke ideology. And I for one welcome their domination. May they be to the West what Greece and the Greeks were to the Roman Empire.

Put down the vodka, comrade, you are so drunk that you are hallucinating.

@maccurtis730 Nice copium. Woke is a LEFTIST ideology. Mindy Kaling (Velma showrunner) is a leftist. Most of your dictators in the world today are leftists. The right does not have the institutional power your ideology has enjoyed over the last three decades. If people are being driven to the right, it is because your ideology's failures have been exposed for all to see.

How big is Central and South America? After Africa, Latin America taken together is the fastest growing part of the world, rivaling even India.

Tinseltown at one time had that power. But they have squandered it over the past decade. When ideology and "correct think" take priority over producing a quality product, you get something akin to the Soviet "ministry of culture" in Stain's 1930s USSR.

@user-jt3dw6vv4x Your point? And yes, I DID marry an Asian girl. And have two mixed Hapa sons. To the operative point, I am VERY much a fan of cross-cultural pollination. It makes the gestalt greater than the sum of its parts. Modern Asia shows what the best of East and West can achieve when they play off each other.

@user-jt3dw6vv4x Wow, prance around the issue without actually addressing the elephant in the room. My flesh and blood heirs are mixed race. Fetishism only cares about sexual gratification, not about procreation, legacy or inheritance. I am glad we see eye to eye on the issue of open markets of ideas. John F. Kennedy was absolutely right that the American people CAN be entrusted with foreign ideas and alien concepts. And be able to judge truth from falsehood. (basically restructured his quote there) You touched on Greco-Buddhism wish is one of the great stories of antiquity that most people are not aware of. While I have no doubt that Buddhism did make it to the near East in Antiquity, I find myself wondering how much different the world would be if those Eastern philosophies had taken root in the West. A final interesting point relating to Greco-Buddhism is that Raiden(Rajin) in Japanese Shino myths is basically Zeus and Fujin is Aeolus/Zepher. Both evolved on their trip west to the land of the rising sun to what the Japanese remember them.
