  3. Immigration only works as a solution if assimilation is mandatory. Without assimilation, you get countries within a country which is what the Nordic countries are experiencing with their refugee/asylum populations or France and its Harams (Islamic no-go zones).

  5. Your first point blatantly ignores a truism that the Koreans know which you refuse to acknowledge: The strength of the nation comes from the integrity of the family as Confucius observed. It has been conclusively confirmed in multiple studies that children of single-parent families have lower rates of education, higher rates of crime, teen pregnancy, and a whole host of other problems. Do keep in mind that Confucius himself was born out of wedlock and grew up in a broken family. His experiences are empirical evidence supporting his contention that a traditional core family unit is the best situation and that all others fail to sustain a culture.

  7. That is a gross over-simplification. And it shows a complete lack of understanding. Try reading about the Korean War and WHY that conflict occurred. Then look up the history of the ruling Kim Dynasty of DPRK. There are irreconcilable differences.

  10. I will agree that the population levels may be self-correcting. But I disagree about the population not meant to be this big. We have NOT even gotten close to what the environment can actually sustain. Advances in technology keep marching on. We have gotten nowhere close to maximum food production.

  13. I do NOT agree that it is a good thing. However, you may have hit on a point I will agree with. The population decline will reach an equilibrium level eventually. The idea that these populations will go extinct is farcical.

  14. Good luck with that. I tried for two years to find a Korean wife while stationed at Osan AB. My experience is that many think they are too good for Western men. Ironic when so many older couples would have loved for me to marry their daughter.

  16.  @Obscurai  Yeah, the US tried that with Lyndon Banes Johnson's "Great Society" program. It has been an unmitigated disaster that has made the situation worse, not better. Those social pressures stigmatizing single parent households serve to discourage deleterious and destabilizing factions.

And the Koreans know full well that from experiencing the Japanese and Chinese forcing their culture on the Koreans every time the two went to war. The US is the ONLY military to have come to Korea, fight a war, and then go home WITHOUT forcing new cultural values on the locals.

  28. I tend to agree. Most social safety nets in the West are glorified Ponzi schemes. Japan has come to terms with their stagnant population and have accepted austerity, unlike the spoiled adult-children in the EU and the US.

  29.  @vaccinatedanti-vaxxer  Yeah, Suncheon has a very stable population with plenty of young folks. I almost married a girl from there, but she wasn't ready. Most Korean wait until their late 20s, early 30s and she was just getting out of college in her early 20s.

  35. No joke. Numerous studies have conclusively linked single parent families to a rise in crime, lower education and employment opportunities, teen pregnancy, societal collapse. It is a truism that Confucius knew from personal experience and warned future generations not to repeat.

  38. Yeah, Israel tried that with the Kibbutz system. It failed spectacularly, in no small part because the lack of genuine parental figures in the lives of the children. Further, the children raised communally failed to develop adult relationships within their cohort, treating them as siblings rather than potential partners.

He notices that orthodox and traditionalist families in Israel have 8-10 kids while the liberals rarely have 2 kids. That invariably means that in such a nation, the trend will be towards to politics that creates the most offspring. In Israel's case, that means the future belongs to Netanyahu's coalition.

  44. Right now, the ONLY way one can become a Korean citizen is if they are ethnically Korean. That kind of discourages any immigration. They should at least allow a foreigner who marries or is married a Korean national to have a path to citizenship. Fast track it if the marriage produces mixed children.

And no, you thinking that a smaller tax base will produce more revenues is a misapplication of production formulas to fiscal policy. Increased productivity doesn't inherently increase the tax base as the pay compensation doesn't directly correlate. And no, you are completely wrong about government investment. Government doesn't do ANYTHING correctly, not even national defense which IS the one thing it is good at. Government is destructive force and the taking from one to give to another. Free Markets are ALWAYS more efficiently than top-down command ecnomics.

  55.  @nortonnevis7252  Yeah, some of what you read in books is complete fiction. Capitalism, for all of its flaws has improved the human condition in ways that no other economic system has. More people have been lifted out of poverty by capitalism than ever were lifted out by socialism/communism.
