Yeah, I really wish the members of ASEAN would temporarily set their disputes aside and present a united front against China. The Vietnamese need to invite the Indonesians, Malaysians, and Filipinos to joint-base and operate in the Parcels. Likewise, the Filipinos need to invite their neighbors into the northern Islands on their side that are NOT in dispute so as to push the Chinese out of the are at the northern most location. Cut off the supply lines to the southern Islands and they will wither on the vine.

It is interesting how the Japanese and South Koreans have become America's greatest advocates in Southeast Asia. It is something that American policy makers should NOT take for granted.

All of Asian has co-existed? Have you even read a book on Asian History? The continent has only really seen true peace in the last 50 or so years. Whether it is the Chinese and the Japanese, the Vietnamese and the Cambodians, the peoples of Asia have constantly been butchering each other over the millennium.

The Parcel Islands prove otherwise.

Because corrupt corporate leaders exploit the poor labor conditions in communist counties. They think that they can buy off the communist leadership. Do keep in mind that China's "State capitalism" is simply Leninist-Socialist oligarchism under a different name.

All dictators claim to be democratically elected. Just look at Alexander Lushenko of Belarus. The problem with Erdogan is that he has purged his political opposition and subverted the system of checks and balances that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk put in place to PREVENT a dictatorship.

@lehoang3532 If you don't put stock in it, then why are you here except to troll on behalf of your propaganda ministry?

Yeah, I wish the ASEAN nations would temporarily put aside their disputes and present a united front against China, preferably in the Parcels and Northern Spratley. Once China has been disabused of their claims then they can hash it out.

@danghoangluong2942 Yeah, I am no fan of them either. They have proven time and again to be dirty cowards fleeing at the first sign of trouble. And yes, the US did initially help Ho Chi Mihn which is why his early works drew heavily from Thomas Jefferson.

@lehoang3532 Sounds to me like you just want to lick the boot of Beijing. You cannot have an alliance with Japan and Australia without the US. It just isn't going to happen, particularly when the Japanese are so reliant militarily on the US. Second, do you really trust that the Indians would come to your rescue? Just because you may share a common enemy in Red China doesn't mean that they will risk nuclear war on your behalf.

@vietucofficial5813 Yeah, Vietnam after WW2 was one country just like Korea is just one country. Sit down and let the adults talk.
1
@danielch6662 You are delusional. China wants the whole pie and does NOT want to share. They have proven time and again with actions that they ARE willing to kill to take possession of those Islands.

Wow, talk about drinking the Kremlin kool-aid. The US didn't force China and Russia together. China is simply taking advantage of a weakened Russia. For someone so worried aobut American Imperialism, you seem to ignore Russia's Czarist Ambitions in Eastern Europe and China's expansionist moves in Asia.

@khai96x That is not an argument, that is an emotional outburst typical of a myopic and childish mind.
1
@FarnhamJ07 Yeah. part of the problem was the Diem was more interested in fighting Buddhists than Commies. The Buddhists should have been natural allies, not enemies. President Pak of South Korea did NOT make that blunder.

@5552-d8b You do realize that it was the US backed government in Phenom Pehn that the Khmer Rouge toppled? No, the US NEVER supported Pol Pot or his terrorist movement.

There are easier targets to pursue than Taiwan. The Amur Valley and Outer Manchuria for example. The ONLY reason why China puts Taiwan first is because of national pride.
1
@Martincic2010 I would not be so proud to declare your support for communism. You ideology murdered more people than the Holocaust. And ask the Colombians how many people FARC murdered for your goals.

There has been talk about morphing ASEAN from a purely economic one into a military-economic block. Sadly, the disputes over the Islands have been too much of a hindrance for that. A real shame because if they COULD temporarily suspend their dispute and present a united front, they could form a defense line in the Parcel Island pushing the Chinses out at one spot instead of individually.

@lachlanp3365 All of those are fair points.

@khai96x Finland and Sweden beg to differ. So do the Warsaw Pact nations who eventually joined NATO. Your blanket statement shows your myopic views.
