@Lucas Lombardo Wrong. It was Mao's Red China that supporter Pol Pot. Vietnam was supported by the USSR. This was at the height of the Sino-Soviet Split. Add to that, Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge was who toppled the American backed constitutional monarchy(actually a Republic). It was the Khmer Rouge who drove the US out during the fall of Phnom Penh. And then you have the Mayaguez incident which is when Pol pot's government attacked and seized a merchant vessel. The US NEVER supported Pol Pot nor Kampuchea, the US supported the Cambodian Republic.

@Lucas Lombardo Copy that directly word for word from Wikipedia did you? You don't have a single unique idea in your head. That "support" as you put it is not nearly as significant as you make it out to be. It was less about encouraging Pol Pot and more about exacerbating the Sino-Soviets split which you conveniently ignore. Remember, all of this is in the aftermath of Project Azorian (the attempted raising of K-129) and Nixon along with Kissinger going to China. If the US could get the PRC and USSR to fight each other, so much the better.

@Lucas Lombardo Neo Zeon is correct. The Vitecong was working hand in glove with Pol Pot. If not, then the Ho Chi Mihn trail in Cambodia bypassing American forces would never have been successful. The ONLY reason why the Vietnamese went into Cambodia was because they knew Pol Pot was embarrassing Asian Communism on the world stage and that it had to be dealt with before the blowback exploded on them with a vengeance.
