Doc V2 Apples to oranges false analogy. Nice try. Modern Japan is NOT fascistic Imperial Japan. Most Japanese today would rather make love to Chinese (particularly Taiwanese Chinese) than war. My point was that having been on the receiving end of nuclear warfare, they who know when it is and when it is NOT appropriate to actually use them. They know firsthand the terrible cost of unleashing the power of the atom.

Japan is a VERY traditional society. Respect for elders is ingrained into them practically from birth. Abe may not be in office, but he IS a mover and shaker behind the scenes. And current leadership WILL listen to what he has to say.

If he is still a mover and shaker behind the scenes, playing king maker means people SHOULD listen to what he has to say. Japanese are VERY traditional, and they WILL take heed of warnings from a prior leader.

Cold but true. America's Flag officers are all oath breakers and traitors.

Smart people know you do NOT kill the golden goose. China's communist leadership are not smart people. They are narcissists who think the rules don't apply to them.

At this point, I would rather watch a Bollywood movie than anything that comes out of Hollyweird.

Deportation of Taiwanese to Mainland China is awful! Rather, Chinese mainlanders deported should be sent to Taiwan. If countries like Thailand send North Korean defectors to South Korea, why can't they do the same with regards to China and Taiwan?

Why must Taiwan be reintegrated? Historically the Chinese Emperors couldn't be bothered with it. When Qing Dynasty finally took notice, they only occupied the Western half and ignored the mountainous Eastern half. It was Japan that united the Island under one governance.

"War is unavoidable. It can only be delayed to the advantage of one side," -Carl von Clausewitz. Remember the lessons of Munich. Appeasement NEVER works.

@jimlewis1332 I would agree, but the Japanese threw a temper tantrum when it was revealed that the Air Force placed Strategic Nuclear armed Bombers on Okinawa. While I trust the Japanese with nukes, THEY don't trust nukes.

That is possible. But there IS a ceiling to the number of aircraft and naval vessels they can field. Provided you know that absolute ceiling, underestimating the capabilities of individual vehicles becomes less of an issue.
2
They could and they have in the past. The problem is that now, that would be a declaration of War. In the Eyes of the CCCP, that becomes an occupying force that must be driven out.
2
There already is one. It is the Convention on the High Seas with 63 nations having signed it as of 2013. China, OPEC, North Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Syria refuse to acknowledge it.

Not that it is the same, but Hanja and Kanji are variations of the same pictographic script. An analogy is English and German.

Jack Hui I am fully aware of what they would consider a declaration of war. And some of them NEED to be crossed to call China's bluff.
