Hey guys, my name's John and I run the YouTube channel MagnatesMedia. A YouTuber called Business Casual (Alex Edson) has filed 3 copyright strikes against my channel, claiming I have used a couple of SECONDS of similar footage.
These 3 strikes mean I received an email from YouTube saying in a few days my channel is going to be deleted. This means all of my videos, the channel I’ve spent years building, and my entire livelihood is now at risk of being taken away.
I can’t really put into words how devastated I am. I do not believe these strikes are fair whatsoever, and I have repeatedly tried to reach out to Business Casual directly to try and resolve this amicably between us in private. But he is ignoring me and only seems interested in getting my channel deleted, and making veiled threats of a lawsuit.
The footage he has claimed is literally 2 or 3 seconds in videos that are 20+ and 50+ minutes long (documentaries that took me and my editors over 100+ hours each to make). The footage he is claiming incorporates images in the public domain that he does NOT own - we have both applied a basic parallax animation effect in those couple of seconds, but the clips are not even identical as you’ll see in this video.
One example is that he has given me a strike for my Andrew Carnegie video. (His video is about 15:59 in length, whereas my video is 53:30). The image he’s claimed in my video is a historical photo in the public domain, and the effects my editor has added to the image are different to him (e.g. explosions, flames, and other animations). My editor has literally provided his editing timeline to show he added the effects himself. And yet Business Casual has still given me a copyright strike.
Unfortunately I have since found out Alex Edson has a history of this. There are allegations from other creators of him shutting down their channel or threatening them, abusive contracts he forced creators into when he ran PowerTV MCN, and outright lies he’s spread like claiming a different channel ‘digitally erased his watermark’. However he mass deletes any comments that question any of this or that ask him why he’s getting my channel shut down.
I am genuinely crushed by all of this. I am not some big media company, I am a guy in my 20’s who loves making content and has gradually built up a channel over the last 5 years. This channel is my full-time income, and for all of my ~250 videos to be permanently deleted because of a couple of seconds of similar (but different) footage is heartbreaking.
If you are please able to share this video, or get the word out in any way about what is happening here, it would be appreciated more than you know. Thank you so much. - John

It's great to be back. 😁 The support over the last few weeks has been incredible, and I just wanna say a massive thank you again to everyone who helped in any way!
This video should explain exactly what happened to my channel, and where things are up to now. But for those who just want the short version: Alex hasn’t dropped the strikes, but MagnatesMedia is NOT getting deleted! 🥳
To Alex Edson (I know you’ll be watching this & filing a false privacy claim like you did to all the other creators)... I have deliberately NOT shared some of the more serious allegations against you that people have privately sent me, as I now consider this matter over. Assuming you don’t attack me or any other creators again, then I’ll go back to making my normal videos, you can go back to filing patents, and we can hopefully all move on with our lives.
Obviously if Alex does try to come after me or anyone else, then there is A LOT more to show you all. I also now have comprehensive media insurance in place & 100’s of you have messaged about a gofundme for a countersuit - so if Alex does escalate things, we should be able to get some important case law in place to protect creators.
However I imagine Alex is unlikely to wanna draw even more attention to his past activities, so hopefully this is now the end of it, and this will be the last time I ever need to mention the name Alex Edson.
Thank you again to everyone for the help and support - you’re all legends! I’m looking forward to getting back to normal videos again now… 😁

I’m so relieved this video is finally complete, as it literally took 100s of hours to make! 😂
I used well over 100 different sources to write the script (including books, articles, videos, interviews etc) - however the Netflix co-founders have both written their own books, which were particularly useful for understanding some of what happened behind the scenes. The reason for that is I wanted this video to feel more like a movie where you go on the journey with them, and see how they went from tiny start-up to global empire.
For some people, this video might simply be an interesting look inside of a giant company & some of the crazy stories from Netflix’s history… for others it may be motivating, and possibly even provide some business lessons.
Either way, I really hope you enjoy the story - and if you do, please consider turning on the notification bell for more content like this in the future. (... Although hopefully a shorter video next time - this project nearly broke me 😅)
Also, I’ve seen a lot of people asking what software is used to make these videos, and the answer is Adobe’s creative cloud suite - Free trial here: https://magnates.media/editing

Hey legends! This video was a longgg time in the making. Trying to cover over 100 years of history in 1 video was an interesting challenge, but hopefully you like the end result. 😅
We look at how Coca-Cola began as a dodgy patent medicine, the marketing genius that made Coke so successful, how Coca-Cola profited from the war, the very dark consequences of what Coke has done, and even how they made one of the most successful mistakes ever. There’s obviously loads more than that too, so sit back and enjoy 😉 (I would say grab a nice cold glass of Coke, but given the contents of the video... maybe not...)
AND FINALLY... please remember to turn on the notification bell if you want more free mini-movies like this! There’s also loads of other documentaries already posted on MagnatesMedia to watch whenever you want!) Thanks again for all the support! 🔔

🚨 UPDATE: EXCITING NEWS! I just launched my full YouTube system showing how you can grow your own channel fast, make incredible content, and earn a full-time income from YouTube. I've grown MagnatesMedia from 0 to over 1,500,000 subscribers & a 7 figure business, and so if you want my help to do the same, check out: https://magnatesmedia.com (includes all my secrets & systems that took me years to figure out).
🤔 WTF is this video, and why should you care? (Please let me explain...)
🔥 The rise of TikTok happened ridiculously fast. It only launched 2017, and yet in 2020 it was the most downloaded app in the world. Every social media started copying it. Governments wanted to ban it (a few did). Some people loved it and made millions from it. Other people hated it and accused it of some of the worst things imaginable.
📺 I wanted to understand the full story behind what was going on, but there weren’t any documentaries/films or even detailed YouTube videos about it… until now.
🎥 I’ve dedicated the last few months of my life (and many hundreds of hours) to make this ‘mini movie’. It is not just the story of TikTok though, it’s also the story of Bytedance, which is the parent company that owns/created TikTok.
📕 This is a bold claim, but I believe Bytedance will be the biggest competitor Google has ever faced. And yet hardly anybody ever even mentions them. So even if you don’t care about TikTok at all, the story of what Bytedance are doing (and what they can become) is important. And hopefully quite entertaining. (Seriously, some of it’s pretty crazy).
👉 In short, this video is the inside story of TikTok and Bytedance - how they took over the world, the dark consequences of what they’re doing, and why this is just the beginning.
# ~~~~~ CHAPTERS: ~~~~~ #
00:00 Prologue (we join Bytedance founder, Zhang, as he reflects on the current state of TikTok, and its parent company Bytedance)
02:47 CHAPTER 1: The American Dream... In China (we learn how Bytedance began, and some of the bizarre apps they created early on)
06:09 CHAPTER 2: Addicts & Algorithms (we discover how the Chinese version of TikTok went viral, which kickstarted everything else)
13:18 CHAPTER 3: Going Global: A Marketing Masterclass (we see how TikTok expanded internationally, and took over the world so fast)
21:32 CHAPTER 4: TikTok Vs The World (we examine why governments started turning on TikTok, and the potential privacy & data issues TikTok has)
28:01 CHAPTER 5: The Many Problems of TikTok (we dive into the dark and disturbing side of TikTok)
35:23 CHAPTER 6: Why Vine Failed, But TikTok Succeeded (a case study of Vine vs TikTok)
38:30 CHAPTER 7: How TikTok Makes Money (why TikTok has such a great business model)
44:25 CHAPTER 8: How TikTok Is Changing Lives & Industries (the ways TikTok is changing people’s lives, and Bytedance’s plans for world domination)
(In my last video about the story of WhatsApp some people said it was too long, so for this video… I’ve made it even longer 😂 My bad. But seriously, I’m not trying to ‘drag it out’, in fact I’d likely earn much more by splitting this into 8 separate videos. But I really think following the whole story from start to finish is way more impactful & interesting. But you can skip to certain parts using the timestamps if you really want). Enjoy! ;)

This is the first episode in a new series on this channel, "Crazy But True: Business Stories That Feel Like Movies". It tells the full story of WhatsApp, but framed around one key question: How Does WhatsApp REALLY Make Money? I hope you enjoy. 😁
EDIT: Wow, thank you for all the comments & support! Just wanna address some concerns that I saw a couple of people ask:
1. "Are you sponsored by Signal?" No. I am in no way affiliated with Signal whatsoever, and don't even have the app myself. There are lots of other alternatives to Signal, I only mentioned it because it seemed to have very positive perceptions in online privacy communities (plus it's part of the story, since it was created by the original WhatsApp founder).
2. "Why are you advertising a VPN?" - A VPN is not some magic pill to all privacy issues, but personally I believe you're better to have a VPN (from a trusted provider) than not. But you don't necessarily NEED one; you can research it and decide for yourself. They didn't pay me to say anything (I just used an affiliate link in the description to an established VPN).
3. "There's nothing wrong with Whatsapp" - Whatsapp IS a great service. If you go to the end of the video, you'll see that I do say MOST companies collect your data for all kinds of reasons. For many people, continuing to use WhatsApp is totally fine. Really, it comes down to how much you trust Facebook. Clearly the original founders don't, but I am not saying you need to delete Whatsapp. I just think its worth being aware of the story behind it all. I hope you enjoy!
New videos like this coming soon! :_HappyElon:
Btw, if you would like to know exactly how I make these videos so you can do the same and grow your own YouTube channel... I've spent many months building a program that teaches everything I know about YouTube & business. If you want to make money by creating cool videos, I think you'll love this. Hey legends! I have huge news, bad news, and great news… 🥳
The huge news… My YouTube course is FINALLY here (about a year after I first started planning it 😅).
If you want to make incredible content, grow your channel much faster, and make a lot of money with YouTube - I think you’re going to love it. It’s a complete step by step blueprint with everything I know, and so it works for both beginners and more advanced creators.
It covers EVERYTHING you need to build a hugely successful channel… including storytelling, video editing, hiring, going viral, getting big sponsors, making more money, and SO much more... So you can get paid to make videos about whatever you find interesting (and you don’t even have to show your face!)
The bad news… It’s not cheap. I realised I had 2 choices: build a standard course to sell to everyone… or create something really premium, where I literally hold nothing back, give away all my templates, systems & secrets, and offer personalized support.
So the great news… if you are serious about growing your own channel, and you have some money to invest… I truly believe I’ve created the best system that will allow you to do that. And I’ll personally guide you every step of the way.
Wanna learn more & join my inner circle? Check out: https://magnatesmedia.com/youtube
And if you don’t have the money to invest, I’ve made you this video which is a FREE 1 hour mini course instead. (This video is honestly pretty weird, but I guarantee you haven’t seen anything quite like it before). Hope you find it helpful! 😁

🍌 Part 1: https://youtu.be/j6muUD2SUk8
The banana industry has a very dark past… massacres, wars, and overthrowing democratically elected leaders (on multiple occasions). At one point, they essentially had more power in Central American countries than their own governments did, and they exploited that fully.
But as well as looking at all that, this video continues the story of Sam Zemurray - who in part 1 had started out selling ripe bananas, but then expanded his company (Cuyamel Fruit) to try and compete with the dominant industry leader, United Fruit. This is the story of how Sam kept pushing things further, and eventually became the banana king. But at what cost?
Honestly though, despite all the madness the banana industry is involved with, one of the strangest things I learnt from researching all this is that a banana is classified as a berry… wtf.
Anyway, hope you all enjoy this 2 part series! And thanks to AG1 for sponsoring - go to https://drinkAG1.com/magnatesmedia to get the exclusive MagnatesMedia deal! :)

👋 Hey legends. This video looks at the rise of Bitcoin through the eyes of the Winklevoss twins, including how they became bitcoin billionaires, and all of the drama along the way…
In case you’re not yet familiar, the Winklevoss twins are the ones who sued Mark Zuckerberg, claiming he stole the idea of Facebook from them. 😅
🚨IMPORTANT NOTE: I will never ask you in the comments to message me or anyone else, so please report the impersonators / scammers. This video is also not financial advice, it’s a story. Nobody truly knows what will happen with crypto/bitcoin, so be wary of anyone claiming otherwise.
And finally, I also just posted another new documentary on the crazy story of Airbnb: https://youtu.be/CTra8NnPD1I - so if you get chance after watching this video, please take a look at this airbnb video as well, and let me know what you think. :)

Hey legends, this is one of those very rare times in life where you can literally get free money… I know that sounds ridiculous, but here’s how it works:
Firstly, go to https://magnates.media/freestocks - and you get 1 free stock just for opening an account (which is free, quick and easy to do). And then deposit $100 and you get 5 free stocks. And deposit $2000 and you get 15 free stocks! And just to be clear, you only have to DEPOSIT the money and keep it in your account for the promotion period to get this deal. (Of course if you want to invest it in stocks, ETFs, etc then that’s great too).
All the free stocks you get will be worth between $3 - $2000 EACH! Of course most of the free stocks will probably be much closer to the lower end than the higher end, but you have 15 chances! And even if you’re super unlucky and all your free stocks end up being only around $5, that’s still $75 in free stocks! Easy.
If you’re a US citizen, I think it’d be crazy not to do this. And if you’re in Australia, there’s a different (but still very good) deal as well when you click the same link: https://magnates.media/freestocks
For people in other countries, moomoo are planning to expand (that’s why they’re offering such a crazy good bonus deal right now to get the word out about their platform) so I’ll let you know when there’s some bonuses available for you too!
And btw, this pinned comment isn’t even part of the sponsorship deal with them - we only agreed on a mention in the video. But I want all of you to get the free stocks (which you can just sell if you only want the money) so I wanted to explain everything here. 😅 Obviously read through the terms yourself for the full info, but personally if I was a US citizen I’d 100% be doing this, and getting my family signed up too. 😂
I haven’t even mentioned that moomoo gives you free level 2 data & advanced trading tools & commission free trades… but this comment is already long enough, so just check it out yourself, and enjoy the free stocks: https://magnates.media/freestocks 😉

Hey legends, John here. From next month onwards, this channel will be switching permanently to longer documentary style videos (like the James Jani / Amazon videos on this channel... but even better). I've been building a small team to help me, so that I can hopefully post at least 2 really epic (200+ hour productions) documentaries every month. The goal is to make Netflix quality content, but post it free on YouTube.
However, before the switch next month, I have a bunch of other unique videos & ideas I wanna share with you (like this one). So if you're only here for the documentaries, don't worry, from June onwards that's all this channel will be posting. But in the meantime, I hope you enjoy some of these other videos I've been working on. 😁
Thanks for all the support, I love you all.
(P.S. This channel used to be called John Frazer - Young Magnates, but has switched to MagnatesMedia since I'm moving away from content with me on camera, and instead focusing on more professional productions).

This is one of my favourite sponsors to promote, because they are literally giving you free stocks/money! https://magnates.media/freestocks (if you’re a US citizen, read on for more info) 🤑
Just like how Henry Royce took something good and made it incredible, the stock trading app moomoo just did the same thing… For a limited time, they’ve increased their signup bonus so you can now get up to 20 FREE stocks! Plus an entry to their $60K Holiday Sweepstakes! 🥳
Honestly the only problem is that it’s such a crazy good offer I’m guessing some of you guys will be skeptical… at least I know I was when they first told me. 😂
But the simple truth is they’re investing heavily in signup bonuses right now because they genuinely have a great platform/app for buying and selling stocks, and they want to become a leader in the US market. And offering extremely generous signup bonuses like this is a pretty great way to attract new customers. (And they can afford it since they’re backed by massive investors like Sequoia, Tencent, etc). 💸
The current deal is that you get 1 free stock just for joining (which is quick and free). Then 9 more if you deposit $100. And an additional 10 if you deposit $1000. (So up to 20 random free stocks in total). You do have to keep the deposit in your account for the promotion period to get the free stocks, but you don’t actually have to invest the money if you don’t want to. 📈
Of course don’t just take my word for it; I’d recommend looking up some impartial reviews of moomoo’s platform, and checking the full terms for yourself. But I’ve been working with moomoo for a little while now and I’ve been really impressed. And this current welcome bonus is the best I’ve ever seen from any trading platform… So if you’re looking for a great & easy way to trade stocks, OR you simply want to cash in on this incredible welcome bonus, click here now: https://magnates.media/freestocks 😁

💰How I built MagnatesMedia from 0 to 1,500,000+ subscribers & a 7 figure business: https://magnatesmedia.com (so you can just copy me)
🔥I know some of you have already claimed this deal, but if you haven’t, moomoo has agreed to extend it a little longer… Get up to 15 FREE stocks here: https://magnates.media/freestocks - read the terms for the full info, but basically you can get 1 free stock just for opening an account, then up to 15 free stocks depending on how much you deposit (you just need to keep it in your account for the promo period, but then after that you can withdraw it again if you don’t want to invest it).
The free stocks are all worth between $3 - $2000 EACH! So if you get the full 15, that’s an absolute minimum of free $75 worth of stocks (which you can sell for cash if you prefer), and obviously some of the free stocks are gonna be worth more than that (hopefully a LOT more).
This is currently just for US citizens. But if you’re in Australia or Singapore you can also get $10 cash for simply opening an account using my link above! And hopefully moomoo will be expanding to more countries very soon. But YouTube analytics says the majority of you are in the US, so hopefully you can make the most of this free stock deal while it lasts. :)

Hey Michael, firstly just want to say you have a great channel, and thanks for the comment! You're right though, honestly the whole fair use / copyright issue IS frustrating because it's a grey area. Some people get away with things that in my opinion aren't fair use, whereas others get punished when it is clearly fair use. A few points I want to add though:
1) Channels using a full trailer and long scene are almost certainly getting copyright claimed. Just because the video is up, of course doesn't mean they are getting the ad money for it. YouTube's auto detection software will almost certainly have flagged that, so I highly doubt anyone is earning ad revenue on videos like that.
2) Unfortunately there's no way to get whitelisted, each video is considered separately. Some channels may make deals with license holders by reaching out to them and agreeing something, but this is rare.
3) Nope, it doesn't mean only good movie reviews are allowed. And in terms of the actual fair use law, whether it's good or bad doesn't matter whatsoever. The point I was making, is that since fair use is a grey area, companies are far less likely to try and take down a video that is promoting their movie, as opposed to a video that is trash talking it. This SHOULDN'T matter, but it's something to bear in mind.
Ultimately though, it's best to just not look at what others are doing, and instead just make sure your videos always fall within the fair use criteria. If you're certain your video does, then you have every right to dispute any claims, and shouldn't have an issue. Good luck!

What new habit are you going to form in 2019?
To anyone reading this: thank you for watching this first ever Young Magnates video.
I have no doubt I’ll look back on it and think it was cringey, but hopefully in a ‘wow, things have really improved’ kind of way, rather than ‘wow, why did I ever attempt YouTube?’
The intention will always be to create original videos with either new ideas, or with a more interesting delivery than I can find elsewhere... Practical advice, delivered in an entertaining way. After all, becoming successful should be fun, right?
As mentioned, I‘m not claiming to be the expert here, but from businesses I’ve run and leaders I’ve studied, I have plenty I’d like to share, and believe a community of young, driven individuals can be powerful. A magnate is simply anyone who is extremely wealthy, influential or successful in their field, and that’s what we’ll become. Regardless of your current age or circumstances.
Thanks again for watching, and I’ll hopefully see you next week...

Wow, didn't expect the son of an actual billionaire to comment on this - hey man, I enjoyed your vlogs! 😂Just to clarify... if someone gives you a billion dollars, then yes, I completely agree.
I guess a more accurate video title would be "For most people, a six or seven figure income is more than enough to live the lifestyle you want - so if you're constantly just chasing more money for the sake of it, rather than actually using/enjoying it, then what's the point? The insane amount of work you'd have to do to make a billion dollars would not be enjoyable for the vast majority of people; instead, figure out a realistic amount of money that would let you live your dream life, without having to dedicate your entire life to working - after all money should be there to enhance your life, not make you a slave to it"... But that's too many characters. 😜
So yeah, if someone wants to give me a billion dollars without me having to dedicate my life to working, sign me up in a heartbeat.

👋 Welcome to "Oligarchs: The Movie" (The Murderous Rise of Russia's Billionaires)...
This video is about the rise of Russia's oligarchs - the powerful billionaires who combine wealth & politics. Our story focuses on three main characters: Boris Berezovsky, Roman Abramovich, and Vladimir Putin - and begins during the USSR's abrupt switch towards capitalism. It's a crazy story of wealth, influence, corruption and power - I hope you enjoy!
P.S. We cover A LOT in this video, so I'd highly recommend watching twice, as it will be much easier to follow second time round... and no I'm not just saying that because I want watch time (although that would be nice too). 😉

Hey man, thanks for the great feedback! I'm very glad you enjoyed the video, as I've really been trying to prioritize quality over quantity lately, and my goal is to keep improving the videos even further. As for your questions, I'll list some resources below:
🎵 Music I use:
https://www.slip.stream/?fpr=john19 use code JOHN02 for 20% off! (there's a free version too) + also https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/1d3bmw/ - both are great for youtube as you can filter by genre/mood etc.
📺 Stock footage: pexels, pixabay etc - lots of good copyright free material that's 100% free to use. If you want more professional, I use storyblocks. You can also use 'fair use' principle to utilise copyrighted material like myself and James do. I have a full video about how fair use works on my channel if you're interested in that.
🧰 For My Equipment & Recommendations, I made a list: https://magnatesmedia.com/equipment
🎨 Editing Software I use is the Adobe suite. Free trial: https://magnates.media/editing -- however you can use any editing software, the key is following tutorials to learn the techniques. (Or alternatively, outsource editing & build a team: https://magnates.media/fiverr )
However, if you are looking for my full system for making videos, and building a profitable channel, I do have my own youtube course. If you'd like some more info, check out: https://magnates.media/youtube and feel free to drop me an email john@magnatesmedia.com if you have any other questions. Best of luck with your videos, and thank you for watching & supporting this channel. Stay tuned, because I have lots of bigger and better videos on the way very soon! 😁

Hey Yasha, firstly just want to apologise for the slow reply, and thank you for the kind words & feedback. It looks like you're covering some really important and useful topics on your channel, and I'd certainly love to see the documentary style applied to your content. I'll answer your question below:
When it comes to editing, aside from skillshare tutorials (I believe they have some specific for motion graphics), you can actually find some great guides on YouTube totally free. You can watch similar content and see effects you like, then search for tutorial that teaches you a similar effect. And normally when you learn one specific effect, it teaches you more about the different tools in Adobe as well, so it can be useful for your own creations.
Now, as for the step by step process you talk about, the good news is I have created a YouTube course specifically for that. It is designed to be an all-in-one solution though, covering growing a channel, building a loyal audience, making content, setting up multiple revenue streams, scaling it, building a team etc. If YouTube is just a hobby then it's probably not the right thing you need, but if you're interested in YouTube becoming a full-time income, I think it can be perfect for that. I'll admit editing is not really the focus of it at the moment, but I am currently working on a new module (which will be added free to all buyers) that goes step by step through my process of creating documentary style videos. Script, planning, coming up with editing ideas etc. So that may be what you're after. Here is the link https://magnatesmedia.com/ytm-order if that's of interest at all?
Either way, I really wish you the best of luck with your channel. And if I can ever help with anything else, just let me know man!

Hey, firstly a huge thanks for the comment, very glad to hear you're enjoying the videos. But to answer your question, for a long while I was doing it all myself but now I'm building a small team to help me produce these videos more regularly, as you're right, they take a very long time. 😅 I'm a big advocate of creators trying to do this so they can make more regular videos whilst still maintaining the quality. (In fact, I actually plan to try and increase the quality and take things up another level over the next year).
I just want to let you know though that a lot of people are reporting that YouTube AREN’T showing them new videos even though they’re subscribed, unless they turn on ‘all notifications’ by pressing the bell. (And some people even have to unsubscribe and re-subscribe to even be able to turn the notifications on). It’s frustrating, as a lot people are missing the new documentaries as a result of this glitch, but just wanted to let you know in case you wanna make sure you see future videos. If so, please consider turning notifications on. Thanks again for the kind words – you’re a legend!

Hey, thanks for watching!
This youtube channel isn't monetized at all yet - it has been running for less than 2 months and with such a small quantity of videos, it doesn't seem worth it yet. The plan is to first build a more substantial audience before even thinking about that. As with a lot of passive income, it's actually MORE work upfront (contrary to popular belief it's 'easier' money) but then once it is built, then it can make far more money, and potentially get to a point where it's on autopilot (because every monetized video becomes an asset that you've already done the work for).
And just to clarify when I say 'monetized', I don't just mean in the traditional sense of Google ads, I also mean in terms of any affiliate links/products you have in your videos and so on. There's 100% a lot of money to be made from YouTube still, but right now all of my passive income is from other sources.
Apologies for the long answer, the short one is: nothing yet, I'm trying to play the long game.
However, I'll always be fully transparent on this channel about monetization as it grows, so people can hopefully watch the journey and apply aspects to their own businesses (or just out of curiosity see how much money the channel is making).
Thanks!

Excellent question. I'm almost 100% certain he is NOT licensing it and is relying on fair use.
The truth is he is operating in the 'grey zone'. Because he is using such small clips and typically without audio, they won't get automatically flagged by the system. They would need to be manually flagged by the copyright holder if they found them. Jake would then likely dispute it under fair use. The copyright holder then has to decide if they want to take him to court over it. And for most companies, it's just not worth it.
As for who'd win in court if it went that far, hard to say for certain. Jake's videos are very transformative, and aren't affecting commercial use of the movies, so he has a case. BUT... you're right, it's risky, as he isn't actually offering commentary on them or anything, so it could go either way. I think he's just relying on the fact it won't go that far, as it wouldn't make sense for the company to try and file a lawsuit against a YouTuber over that (and if they did, I assume he'd just delete the video / give them the ad revenue for it rather than go to court). After all, most companies won't care if they're earning the ad money from it.

Hey! Unless YouTube know the real location of the account (i.e. because they're logged in to an account registered in a certain country), then I believe the VPN country would be used. So a person in a 3rd world country viewing with a USA VPN would count as a USA view, and vice versa. Google has a lot of data though, so I suspect it often knows when it's a VPN. Third world countries still count as monetized views though. There's 3 reasons it wouldn't be a monetized view: 1) like you said, if they're using ad block. creator gets no money if ad block is used as no ad shows. 2) they have youtube premium (creator does get money from this, but it's calculated differently), and 3) if the viewer has already seen a lot of ads recently, youtube may not put ads on the video. For example, if the last video you watched you saw 2 ads, you may not get an ad at the start of the next video, as youtube doesn't want to have so many ads that people stop watching. Hope that helps. :)

Hey Elliott, great point. With that one for me, the best example I can give you is right before my final exam, when I had a week left to revise for it. I used some grade tracker thing to work out that I'd only need a really low mark in that exam to average a first for the overall degree.
So if my goal had been 'get a first', I'd have probably not gone all out that final week, because I'd have known I didn't need to. Subconsciously I wouldn't have felt bad binge watching Netflix all night. But because I was aiming even higher, I had the inner drive of thinking 'ok well if me and someone else are on the same grades right now, all I can do is outwork them this final week'. So I pushed on.
You're 100% right that I had no control over how someone else did, but the real point I was trying to get across in this video is that it isn't even about always hitting every goal, it's about stretching yourself.
The best quote to sum this all up is "The problem for most people isn't that they set their goals too high and miss them, it's that they set their goals too low and hit them." Even if I hadn't got the top marks in the class, because I'd aimed for that I would have still ended up doing well by having that extra drive. Whereas I guarantee if I'd gone into final year thinking 'most people get a 2:1, that'll do' I'd have been way less focused and probably got a 2:1.
I'm not saying a 2:1 isn't good by the way - graduating with any grade is a huge achievement. And for a lot of people grades don't really matter that much anyway, I just wanted good grades to give me some credibility to talk about business online. But if you apply this "aim exceptionally high" concept to anything in your life that really matters to you, I think you'll find it can really help you push on to achieve more than if you'd aimed super realistically. Hope that makes sense - sorry for the huge message!

Thanks a lot man! The daily videos sound good, but I agree a balance of 2 per week is great more long-term.
As for monetizing, there's obviously all the main things:
- Youtube ads (after 1k subs and 4k hours watch time)
- Sponsorships (reach out to relevant companies/products)
- Affiliate links (selling relevant products and getting a commission)
- Merch & Patreon & Donations & Super Chat (all the different fan-funding methods)
But to truly turn it into a business, you ideally need your own product/service to sell, and use your channel to attract your ideal customers/clients. This is something I'm actually working with a couple of clients on at the moment, so by all means email me if you want more in-depth help. However, my initial thoughts are:
Don't limit yourself to just facts, your product/service should be in the knowledge niche. After all, a facts channel is attracting people who want to learn more and become wiser, right? That opens up a lot more potential avenues of what you could sell. It really depends where your skills lie and what type of product/service you're able to make, but a YouTube channel is the perfect platform to sell it and attract customers. Best of luck!

Hey Sayan, thank you, and sorry for the slow reply. I'd actually say this is one of the much simpler videos on the channel (compared with the longer 'documentary style' ones), but I'm glad you still enjoyed it. As for editing, you can definitely get started with free YouTube tutorials, however if you're ready to take it up a level, I actually have a YouTube course that goes through my process. Right now it's not very focused on editing (it's more focused on growing the channel, monetizing it, scaling it, hiring people etc), but I'll be adding an extra editing module soon going much more indepth on how I make these videos ( If you're interested, the link is: https://magnatesmedia.com/ytm-order ). I will continue to add to it over time, so that it's always up to date with everything a creator could possibly need. Best of luck with your own videos & channel, and any other questions just let me know :) Thanks!

🛑 Hey legends! Please read the following first: 🛑
👉 This is a clip from a 'Top 10 Passive Income Methods' video, however from the analytics it seemed a lot of people dropped off before getting to this method as it's a longggg video. However...
👉 I really feel a subscription site/service is such an important method that I wanted to make it into a separate video (as it was a little bit of "information overload" having 10 different methods in one video).
👉 The full video I'm referring to can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UqLX... (I won't be posting any more clips from it, so please do check it out for more passive income methods, including some other unique ones like creating voice apps/skills).
👉 I don't go too in-depth with the technical aspects of the sites I mention here (internet forums and website hosting) because I'm just trying to give you some inspiration so you can go and look more in-depth yourself into the ideas you're most interested in.
👉 However, I respond to every comment, so if you want some more specific information on those, just let me know and I'll be very happy to help, as those are both areas I've spent a lot of time on.
👉 Building a forum or web hosting service IS EASIER THAN IT SOUNDS. I promise. But again, these are just examples.
👉 If you're still reading at this point, you're clearly a true fan, so thank you! If you're happy for me to personally send you information on the BEST passive income method, just drop your email here: http://bit.ly/theytcheatsheet - no spam I promise, only the GOLD!

Really great questions, and sorry for not clarifying better in the video.
When I said that people don't change their mind, I was specifically talking about debates and arguments. Saying 'nobody' is an over-simplification, but I think if you listen to two people arguing about an issue, they hardly ever change their opinion based on what the other person says. How often have you heard someone in a debate go 'oh wait, you're right actually, I'm switching sides!' - that was my point. But I agree that in normal life, people do switch opinions sometimes (but even the, we all try to stick with our original opinion most of the time).
As for the divide between the right and left, this is based on a few studies I saw that claimed political polarization is at one of the highest levels of the decade. Now this is difficult to exactly measure, but from anecdotal experience this seems to be accurate. I definitely see much more animosity between the right and left and less middle ground in their views. There seems to be a bit more extremism on both sides. And a lot of centrists are left feeling that both sides are going too far to the right or left.
You are right though, both of these points are not an exact science. And something I want to make really clear with this video, is that even though I am not trying to be biased, inevitably some points have my own bias. That's kind of the point of the video though: all information is influenced a little by the person saying it!
Really appreciate your feedback and support though man, thanks again! Hopefully lots of even better videos to come on this channel very soon!

🛑 Wait, stop scrolling! I have 4 quick things to share with you: (press read more)
1️⃣ Yes, this video was partially inspired by Jake Tran's style (of using movie clips to tell a story). However I thought it would be interesting to turn the tables, and do a Jake Tran style video that's about Jake Tran!
2️⃣ If you're new here, MagnatesMedia posts lots more mini-documentaries like this, and we have some very big plans ahead. Feel free to subscribe and turn on notifications if you want to see them. (Unfortunately if you don't turn on notifications, YouTube probably won't show you the videos even if you're subscribed).
3️⃣ If you'd like to support the channel, we now have a Patreon, and 100% of the money will be re-invested into making bigger and better videos. You'll also get ad-free videos and behind the scenes exclusives, so check out the link in the description if you'd like to help!
4️⃣ When the FBI/China inevitably decide to seek their revenge on Jake, I would just like it to be publicly known I have no idea of his whereabouts... 👀
Thank you for your support with this channel, I love you all.
(P.S. Wanna get paid to make documentary style videos like me and Jake? I put together a course that gives you the exact blueprint you need to approach YouTube more like a business. Just visit: http://magnatesmedia.com/ytm-order for the details!)

Very glad it was useful for you. Looks like you're making some really interesting videos, best of luck with your channel. (By the way, there are some other youtube-related videos on this channel you may enjoy, including a brand new documentary we'll be posting later this week).
Also, if it's of interest, you can check out our YouTube course, as I think your channel has huge potential. So if you're interested in monetizing it, definitely take a look at our course http://magnatesmedia.com/ytm-order :)
Either way, a huge thank you for your support, and I'm looking forward to seeing your channel grow. You'll definitely be hitting 100 subs very soon. But hopefully I'll be congratulating you on 100,000 some time in the not too distant future ;)

Good question, but tough to answer without giving a generic response like 'it varies'. My philosophy with passive income is that it almost always requires some work upfront before you start getting paid, but that it's absolutely worth doing that as the payoff can be huge. To start earning any money at all, it doesn't necessarily take that long - one example I mention in this video is making just over $50 from an affiliate link when this youtube channel had under 100 subscribers. So technically that's making money in a very short time. However, to start making really good money, realistically it likely needs a few months of dedication to start getting those results, and can often be longer. Again though, it's worth it in the long-term, as once you set one of these up, it can continue to bring in money for a long time to come. For some people it happens pretty quickly, for some people it can take a while, but I genuinely believe anyone can do it if they stick with it. :)

Hey man,
1. You're right that different niches will need a different balance of quality vs quantity. BUT, stock niche already has a lot of people posting regular talking-to-the-camera videos, I think there's a gap in the market for a channel thats more high quality. Focus on more evergreen topics, rather than chasing the hot stock of the day, that way it doesn't matter if the video takes longer to make. Its your call though what works best for you.
2. I am not on camera at all in this video, but I still believe it has some emotion to it. Emotions aren't created by people being on camera, it's from what you say, how you say it, music and visuals used etc. Telling stories is a great way to capture emotion. Hearing about how someone went from nothing to rich from stocks (or the other way around) would both create emotion if told right.
Apologies for the slow response. I really am trying to reply to everything, but a lot of the questions take a while to reply to, so it's difficult to keep up with everything as more and more people comment. I really do read everything and will always try to answer everything I can. Thanks man!

Hey man, thanks for the kind words. It's such a simple thing, but changing your state like that before a video and getting more energised really can make a huge difference, after all it's not just WHAT we say but HOW we say it, right?
That's really useful feedback, thanks! However, what I will say is that this is probably a terrible introduction to my channel. It is extremely rare for me to do a one take video, I mainly did that to prove the point that with the right energy it's easier to speak for longer. I 100% agree about angles, zooms, B-roll etc and you'll definitely find plenty of that in my other stuff (and future stuff). Same with titles, I'd normally go more specific and searchable, but just wanted to experiment with keeping things more vague to see if it increased CTR (which it did). But yeah, we're definitely on the same page with all of that, and thanks again for watching!

Hey - sorry for the slow reply. Although we are now a month later and can look back at the stats... 4,337 views at the time of this comment. You may still say that the time invested still doesn't justify the results. However I think a key thing to note here is that 184 of those views were in the last 48 hours, meaning the video is still 'alive'. Contrast that with some of my older videos that were more basic, and they tended to fizzle out after a week or so. Whereas I believe this video, and any really high quality video, will have a much longer life span, and long-term will be worth it. High-quality videos also increase the chance of a viewer becoming a subscriber, which can mean more views on other future videos too. You're right though, it's always about finding the right balance that works best for you.
A huge thanks for the detailed and thoughtful comment, I really appreciate the support and kind feedback. Best of luck with your videos, and let me know if I can ever help with anything. :)

Hey Danny, firstly just want to apologise for the slow reply, and thank you for the kind words & feedback. When it comes to editing, indeed skillshare have some great guides (and in my James Jani video, you'll probably notice there's a link to get a free month of premium). You can also find some really great guides on YouTube totally free if you're looking for some specific effects. However...
I can see you've been posting videos on your channel for a year or so, and that you're likely looking for more of an all-in-one solution rather than just one off tutorials? In which case I will shamelessly plug my YouTube course, as I genuinely think it might be exactly what you're looking for. It is designed to cover everything you need for growing a channel, building a loyal audience, making content, setting up multiple revenue streams, scaling it, building a team etc. So that may be what you're after? Here is the link https://magnatesmedia.com/ytm-order if that's of interest at all.
Either way, I really wish you the best of luck with your channel man! And if I can ever help with anything else, just let me know any time! :)

Hey Amal, so there's several layers to this:
1. You can honestly get started with the fundamentals from free youtube videos, lots of great tutorials out there for almost any software, and will give you some techniques and effects to practice which you can build upon.
2. At the end of this video, I mention skillshare. I don't get an affiliate commission from recommending them (they paid for the sponsorship upfront), but you can get a free trial with the link I provided, so it may be worth trying that as they have a lot of editing resources, including the course James Jani himself used.
3. If you really want to take things to the next level, I actually have a YouTube course that goes through my entire process. Right now it's not primarily focused on editing (it's more focused on growing the channel, monetizing it, scaling it etc), but I'll be adding an extra editing module soon going much more indepth on how I make these videos. If you're interested, the link is: https://magnatesmedia.com/ytm-order . No pressure, but since you asked about an online course, it seemed crazy not to mention the course I specifically built for people wanting to make money with videos like these.
Best of luck with your own videos & channel, and any other questions just let me know Thanks! :)

Hey, so I guess there's 2 parts to this.
The first part is the editing itself. Creating unique effects, transitions etc. You don't NEED to pay anything to learn editing, there are countless free tutorials on YouTube. However, learning from a proper course/training series will likely be a lot easier and more efficient. At the end of this video, I mentioned the exact skillshare course James himself said he used to learn, and there's also a link in the description so you can try it totally free for 14 days (and then can cancel before you pay anything if it's not for you).
The second part of this is the overall YouTube video creation process. Techniques to hold attention, ways to come up with viable ideas, how to make the right thumbnails/titles - the list is kind of endless. Again, there's a lot of free info out there, but if you're looking for all the answers in one place, I made a YouTube course (link in description as well) that pretty much explains everything I've learnt about YouTube, and everything you could possibly need to know to grow your channel.
If you have any specific questions though, feel free to let me know and I'm happy to answer. Best of luck with your videos! :D
