They drop out, making the mining competition easier and more profitable for those who stay. It would be a mistake to believe this balancing mechanism leads to a death spiral to all miners stopping mining - it actually leads to an equilibrium to be reached.

  4.  @healthygrowth7760  it sounds like you don't know how the mining difficulty adjustment algorithm works. As soon as a few miners drop out, it becomes easier to mine, making it profitable again for the miners who continue mining.
