  15.  @magetoblino9068  I think that is a common misconception. 51% doesn't convey any special power over the network, at least not anywhere near like how Ripple has control of the XRP network. Miners don't control bitcoin, they are just workers who have to obey the protocol rules enforced by everyone running full nodes. And when it comes to adoption, I've met plenty of people who regularly use bitcoin (not for speculation), can't say the same for any altcoin including xrp.

People are using it right for the censorship resistant qualities of bitcoin - I know a guy who uses it to send money back to his home country of Iran because no other systems work due to government sanctions. People are also using it to escape hyperinflating currency - see what is happening in Venezuela.

  23.  @hiflyinlowlife  it wasn't used for anything when it was first created. Later on, people used it for online gambling and buying drugs, donating to WikiLeaks. Now people use newer crypto coins that have have better anonymity for drugs (bitcoin is tracable with some effort). Now people think it is potentially viable as a global alternative to the central banking system.

But it was used for a little while for drugs, but it wasn't very good for that because the bitcoin transactions lead to drug dealers being caught. The media definitely oversells Bitcoin's role in facilitating the buying of drugs, cash is way better for that.

  41.  @xxplosive7945  proof of work mining and high fees prioritize security instead of efficiency, which is much better suited for the treasury reserve asset. Second layer protocols will move bitcoin at scale for cheap and even enable smart contracts like with wbtc. The largest funds know this because they did serious research, which is why they know bitcoin is the winner for where most value will go.
