Seems ridiculous to spend all that money on an old building. Spend on improving lives of people instead.

@Caleb_Evans32 , really? When it’s one’s own culture, it’s important. When it’s other people’s culture, it’s a white elephant, I presume. I was being facetious, because the French are so judgmental about other people’s projects. But talk about “démesure”! The French are big boys, they can take it. BTW, I love France and I speak fluent French. But to gain perspective, we all deserve some of what we dish out.

@Caleb_Evans32 maintaining heritage sites is different from reconstructing a building at a cost of several billion EUR. 1 billon is the low estimate and I expect it to go over budget several times. A partially burnt Notre Dame can itself be a heritage site. I believe in evolution. Cities change and the world changes. BTW, when I lived in France, on beautiful sunny days, I would climb up the towers of Notre Dame to catch some sun .

@Caleb_Evans32 , good points, but tourists would come to Paris to see a partially burnt Notre Dane just the same. I don’t approve of rebuilding Notre Dame, , just my opinion. People do have opinions on buildings, if not, let people who have money build whatever they like, and shut up.

@afwps6314 , I am from USA. If you rebuild the cathedral, then it’s a new building that looks old, it’s no longer an old building... just saying.

@Caleb_Evans32 , just remember what you said here and see if you can apply the principles universally. Opinions are shit opinions and are worth shit if you don’t win. You have no say on how people spend their money. A money making tourist attraction, no matter how gaudy, is a good reason to build and rebuild.
