  2. By the time that the battle for Berlin started as you said it was defended by people who had no real experience and they had no equipment or ammunition to do anything with. The Soviet Union did a good job and I will say that with what they did have I am surprised that they did hold out as long as they did. It was still a brutal battle for all the longer it lasted
