Incorrect. Downsizing animal farming creates zero thread to food availability.
27
Farms under threat?! You mean: nature and climate…
10
@MrVorpalsword The Dutch are tall, not strong. Doesn’t have much to do with animal protein but rather with economical success and general access to proper food. Genetics also play a role.
9
Just because something is advanced or efficient doesn’t mean it should always be maintained. Meat and dairy production is always and everywhere inefficient and polluting.
9
@MrVorpalsword has nothing to do with dairy and meat consumption
8
@suidafrikaanseboer3320 again, I am only referring to meat and dairy.
8
It’s not ‘farmers’ but the meat and dairy industry specifically.
7
We have to start somewhere. Getting meat and dairy products from farther away will eventually make them more expensive, decreasing demand. In the end other countries will follow with decreasing animal farming too.
7
@MrVorpalsword Why would I be? I am helping you understand.
6
@homeistheearth correct
6
@andrewwilson6085 obviously the point is to eat much less meat and dairy. Problem solved.
5
@MrVorpalsword decreasing meat and dairy production and consumption
5
The world can live with A LOT less meat and dairy.
5
Not true. Meat and dairy production is not considerably more inefficient in other countries. Also: we have to start somewhere. Eventually other countries will also start decreasing animal farming.
4
@oshima6451 Reducing meat and dairy directly results in lower GHG emissions.
4
@ruudvanderzanden8013 because it destroys the world we all live on..
4
@gregorymalchuk272 general improvement of quality of nature, climate and there of life in general.
4
Because the EU understands the environmental effects of meat and dairy production. Other parts of the world will follow later.
3
@anchormax3597 The goal is to lower emissions. Nothing else.
3
Did you actually check your numbers before writing this? The area of land used for flowers is TINY compared to land used for other applications like vegetables and animal feed.
3
Exactly
3
@quillo2747 Incorrect. Animal products are far worse, even in case of grass fed.
3
Meat and dairy is not vital at all. And no, overpopulation is not the problem.
3
@m-nnoholly you realize animals eat plants right?
3
@roydavis5613 There is not much to improve when it comes to dairy and meat production. It needs to be decreased massively.
2
@anchormax3597 Only in the heads of conspiracy theorists.
2
@anchormax3597 I don’t see any other solution. Banning or discouraging polluting practices is nothing new and has improved life in general many times in the past.
2
@anchormax3597 How can ‘pollution’ not be sufficiënt? It directly effects human lives everywhere on the planet.
2
Sometimes the government buys it, sometimes the farming keeps it for other activities.
2
Which is fine. Products with a lower impact will be cheaper.
2
Meat and dairy production is never efficient.
1
Meat and dairy are pretty useless types of food and reducing these is therefore a very effective solution for this problem.
1
You are so clueless
1
You are clueless. The problem is not ‘farmers’ but the meat and dairy industry. And only a tiny fraction of all this land area would solve the housing crises, so no, that is NOT the reason.
1
Sounds great to me.
1
@ruudvanderzanden8013 Hé een wappie
1
Not really. A lot of effort is put into electrification of vehicles (this is already paying off) and discouraging flying.
1
😂😂 cope harder
1
Which will eventually decrease consumptions. Also, in the end these other parts of the world will also start decreasing animal farming. We have to start somewhere right?
1
@kpg1973 I know, but that was not the point. You claimed NL ‘only has flower farmers’ while in fact this is not even close to reality.
1
Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it is bogus.
1
@johnandersen-p7q exactly
1
You prefer destroyed nature and ecosystems?
1
How clueless can you be
1
@stephenc8956 yes.
1
@quillo2747 Carbon tax is the solution
1
@gerryoconnor5846 methane
1
@gerryoconnor5846 methane
1
@Antony-ng9yj Yeah, that is the problem
1
Erm no
