Of course not.

It never will. Thankfully.

Efficiency...

@clivefrear1784 Battery electric is far more efficient than hydrogen fuel cells. There is no doubt about that. A hydrogen fuel cell car consumes three times the amount of electrical energy. So it's therefore not an option. Running combustion engines on hydrogen is even worse and out of the question. Battery swapping has been tried in the past bus is simply not competitive to fast charging.

@clivefrear1784 Range is barely better compared to proper EVs. It won't be long before EVs have larger ranges than the Mirai. Most people charge overnight so charging time is 0. I am saying that a hydrogen car is so inefficient that it uses three times more energy. This is unaccaptable in a a time in which we have to use as little energy as we can. Public charging along the street is easy and safe. Works great where I live. Regarding child labour: you are probably referring to cobalt. It is true that a minority of all cobalt comes from questionable sources but this has nothing to do with EVs in particular. The oil industry for example is one of the biggest consumers of cobalt for use in the desulphurisation process of petrol and diesel. Batteries from EVs will simply be reused and eventually recycled after the vehicle's life has ended.

@clivefrear1784 Not much to agree or disagree on.. It's just simple physics. Current Tesla Model S has an equal range as the Mirai and uses only a third of the energy (and thus cost). And again: public chargers along the street work fine.

@clivefrear1784 I did not claim public EV chargers are everywhere already. I just said that they are a great solution and work fine where I live. It's not really relevant whether the VAT on electricity increases or not. I would say it is unlikely because electricity is used for various purposes so it would be illogical to increase it because tax income from car fuels decreases. There are various ways for the government to make up for the decrease of tax income on fossil fuels. Why would you worry about that? Mass adoption of EVs is important for emission reduction, the fact that it is cheaper is just nice to have. Battery recycling will be fine and currently barely exists due to a lack of large amounts of used EV batteries. Batteries will first be reused in stationary applications and after that recycled. There are many companies preparing for a well functioning recycling ecosystem which makes total sense because the used batteries are full of valuable materials. Look up Redwood Materials.

Haha 😄

@ishaybar-yosef415 everything will be electric

The reason is that you need gigantic amounts of land to supply the world with bio fuels. Fuel vs. food conflicts will then be unavoidable.

They will not be the future.

And lots of CO2 during the production of hydrogen lol
