  1. I don't think you need to be "5th-generation Singaporean with ancestral links to both mainland China and Taiwan" to know that "Taiwanese engineers travel freely across the straits" and "people on both sides of the straits are basically Chinese". This is common knowledge to everybody.

  2.  @aglis_  Ok, maybe some people think so, but many millions of western people have visited China as tourists, or studied at Chinese universities, or been on business trips to China, or know someone who have done one of those things.
