  1. Toripalimab is used specifically for the treatment of advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a rare type of cancer that especially affects people of Chinese/East Asian ancestry. Clinical trials showed a 37% reduction in the risk of death compared to chemotherapy alone. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is very rare among people who do not have Chinese ancestry (less than 1 in 100,000 diagnosed annually among non-Chinese), but since there are 5 million people of Chinese ancestry in the US, it makes sense to introduce it there.
