Foreign zoos pay about $1 million a year 'rental fee' to China, and all pandas, including all their offspring, belong to China and must eventually be returned. So gifts, no. Leases would be more correct. I have only seen one panda in my life, in the Shanghai zoo. It was pretty quiet and a bit dusty looking, but so were most of the animals in the zoo. I'd rather watch a sparrow fly outside my window than see pandas in a zoo. Not because I think it's cruel, but I just find animals in cages and zoos and circuses boring to look at.
