Another purpose of this hole: If someone gets very embarrassed they can jump in this hole until they feel better and the world has forgotten what they did. Then they can come out again.

@facetiousmarbles3539 As you mention, gravity decreases, so as you get near to the center your speed will slow to a snail's crawl and by the time you finally reach the center, you will be in a zero-gravity state, just like in orbit.
