1) The designs of the artefacts are very similar to what was previously found at SanXingDui, so it is probably from the same culture. 2) Bronze- and gold works of that size must signify a major kingdom, not just a village. It would have required lots of people and resources to manufacture these things. 3) Some of the designs do look very similar to what is found in later Shanghai Dynasty (1600 BC - 1000 BC) artefacts, so there must have been at least some cultural exchange going on.

Sorry guys, I wrote Shanghai Dynasty. Must have been auto-correct. I meant Shang Dynasty.

One more correction: SanXingDui Culture turns out to be contembporary to Shang Dynasty, only in Sichuan, where Shang was in today's northern China (Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Hubei), approximately 3-500 miles from SanXingDui. Quite far when you only have two flat feet as transportation.

One thing I've always found interesting about the Bronze age in China and the West/Middle East is that western bronze age artifacts are mostly utilitarian: weapons, tools, bowls, etc., while in Chinese Bronze age, they are often ceremonial/religious and very elaborate with little utility.

@hiyukelavie2396 I did not suggest they were cut off, but they do appear to be a separate kingdom. In order to understand our distant past, we need to rely on archeological evidence. If you know of evidence that horses were used for transportation in the Shang Dynasty and in SanXingDui, I will certainly accept that. I am not an expert.

@ChinaSongsCollection Thanks, but I thought the mistake was quite funny and I want it to stay.

@ckaybit Don't mind this Oona guy. He is likely very young and passionate. Better ignore.

@Oona Oheagertie Ok, that must be based on new archeological research, because that is not what Chinese experts used to say.

@donderstorm1845 Maybe we should have one.

@gamingchamp6728 Don't you love it?

@Jackson1941-jyr That's extremely speculative, but I suppose it's ok to speculate.
