I'm in Thailand right now (Chinese New Year 2025), traveled here from Shanghai. I've been cycling around Northern Thailand for 6 weeks, much of it very close to the Myanmar Border: Khun Yuam, Mae Hong Son, Fang, Mae Sai, Chiang Saen, all of these less than 20km from the Myanmar border. Actually, I got as close as 100 meters from the border at one point. I never saw even a hint of danger, or anyone trying to scam me or abduct me. Nor did I hear of such a thing. Nor did I feel afraid or unsafe at any point. I'm getting close to the end of 7 wonderful weeks in Thailand.

@Sinjaxx Because these things don't happen to people who just do tourist things. Nobody who is in a Myanmar scam center was snapped off the street. They all fell for a scam themselves: Saying yes to some shady business deal. If you're just a tourist, this just isn't going to happen to you.

Actually, I'm here right now during Chinese New Year and hotels are booked pretty solid. I'm paying double.

@Bob_In_Thailand Ok, but if some strange Chinese person in Thailand tries to lure you to Myanmar, why do you listen to him in the first place? Just say you're not interested.

@10000years What's dangerous is listening to those scammers who try to tempt you to go to Myanmar, it's not the country of Thailand itself that is dangerous. People are way too naive.
