  1. One of the biggest scam center operators is She ZhiJiang 佘智江, originally from Hunan, China. He has a long history of being involved in scams, illegal gambling, human trafficking and money laundering. First in Cambodia, then the Philippines, and finally Myanmar. He runs YaTai Group which has a major development in Shwekokko, a little north of Mae Sot/Myawaddy. She ZhiJiang 佘智江 is being actively sought by the Chinese authorities. He is currently in detention in Thailand, fighting extradition to China.

  2. The fact that there are lots of people from Ethiopia and Sierra Leone is a clue that the people trapped in these scam centers are not tourists that were abducted. There are hardly any tourists from Ethiopia or Sierra Leone in Thailand, or anywhere else. They are too poor to travel. Rather, these people were promised high paying jobs and they fell for the scam, borrowed money to go to Thailand, and were then transported across the border to Myanmar. Once they got there, they finally discovered they had been tricked. Don't be gullible!
