Hong Kong is engineered and built extremely well. Even a massive, record breaking rain storm like this won't cause major damage.

@JavierISampedroTNF I'm thinking of landslides and building collapses. Those would very likely happen in other places in the region, but HK is pretty solid. If you're thinking about the drainage system, you can stop right now. No city/country designs a sewage system for every extreme weather event, but will design for a 50-year storm, or a 100-year storm. In a rare case like this, it is expected that the drainage system cannot keep up, but that the rest of the built environment can cope with the excess water.

What? release of floodwaters from upstream Shenzhen? Why would that impact HK? At worst it might have a slight impact on the northern-most parts of New Territories, but other than that it'll just run into the sea.
