Nothing, but many packages from the mainland go through HK.

China imposes tariffs, too. Do you apply the same explanation? Almost no products can enter China from any country without at least some tariffs.

Apple devices and other electronic brand name goods are not sent individually through the mail. They are shipped in containers and go through customs in the normal way. As for the 10% tariff, it may mean an acceleration of manufacturing/assembly outside China, such as in Vietnam, India, etc. Chinese companies can still profit if they invest in production capacity outside China.

In 2024, around 1.3 billion 'de minimis' packages arrived in the US, half of which were from China. US Postal Service only has capacity to check 35 million packages per year, so less than 3% of the total.

This may be a threat to ban Android from phones sold in China. It's possible China wants all phones in the country to use Huawei's 'Harmony OS'.
