  1. Too many people? The number of employed just keeps going up and up. 40 years ago, there were 100 million employed in America; now it's 160 million. More people create more jobs.

  3. Europe, Europe, Europe. This guy is mostly talking about Sweden. Other European countries are very different. Given that there are over 40 countries in Europe, each with its own laws and regulations, it is easy to pick the worst aspect of each country and say 'This is Europe'. John Stossel, please put some data on the table, rather than these anecdotes.

  4. This whole CRT debacle reminds of when there were debates about teaching creationism and 'biblical truths' in schools. Children can be presented with different viewpoints and beliefs, but they shouldn't be told that any particular belief is 'the truth'. That goes for the belief of CRT, too.

  5.  @allanshpeley4284  Yes, if I were trying to make the case that unemployment is down, or that AI reduces unemployment. But that is not the case I am trying to make. I am saying that the number of jobs in a country or state or region is not static, and that people seem to conjure up new jobs out of thin air. Even if you had a country with just a single employer, then more people would still lead to more jobs. Economists don't have a clear idea of why this is the case, they just observe it happening everywhere, in every age.

  6. Robber Barons? I always thought it was Rubber Barons, business people who got very rich very quickly on the Amazonian rubber boom from the 1880s to the 1910s.

  7. I like John Stossel, but I think he's building a bit of a straw man here: I don't think many people will claim that electric cars will solve all environmental problems. There are other reasons to buy an e-vehicle, not least of which is the amazing acceleration and relatively low noise. From an environmental/climate perspective, it is true that some of the electricity may come from a gas powered plant, but it COULD also come from wind or solar. Your regular 95 octane gas cannot come from wind or solar. With respect to the emissions caused by manufacture of the cars, this should be seen in relation to the emissions caused by a regular car, not a pair of shoes. Yes, those who claim that electric vehicles will solve all our carbon emission problems are clearly wrong, but how many of those people are there really? Our road to a more electrified society is still long, but we have already come far. Most railways worldwide are now electric as opposed to diesel. Nobody in the developed world uses kerosene lamps indoors and few heat their home using firewood, though that is always pretty comfortable and romantic. These developments, including the electric car, have happened incrementally over decades and they will continue to happen incrementally. And even those grumpy people who complain about it now will enjoy it when it happens; that I am sure of.
