  1. Asuming that the Taliban just hold them for ransom money is the best case scenario. They could (ab)use them as Human shields, prolong the peril for more money, have the Hostages do Propaganda or use their IDs to infiltrate the US (all not mutualy exclusive). Bottom line: this will be bad.
