  3.  @Groza_Dallocort  and after that ship and crew are taken into custody of the neutral power, thus avoiding a pointless death (which is the entire point of my little thought experiment) The catch for the CO however would be to come up with a good enough excuse and having a little navigation "error" would be so much easyer.

  4.  @Ah01  or like one of Von Spees cruisers (i think the Dresden) that was destroyed in Chilean waters in WWI? Probably. However beaching the Bismarck would have saved the lives of the crew, without risking a court Martial.
