Scholz "personal conviction" means that he is so unpopular that he was asked NOT to campaign in Brandenburg (successfully i have to ad) therefore he grasps for a popular issue, that does not cost him much. And unfortunately for Ukraine military aid is unpopular in Germany. Whether this works for Scholz is doubtfull, since the average voter usualy does not care about foreign politics, but Scholz (and more so his leftist dominated Party) seems to think so.
