@PerceivedREALITY999 'I would criticize the Russians for being too soft with nato.' Lets both be realistic, just for a moment. Maybe, somewhere, 'cool heads' are still prevailing? If either Russia or NATO, 'pushed' too far. 'We' could very easily be on the precipice of nuclear Armageddon. I know you believe, Russia is invincible, and it's nuclear weapons are 'unstoppable'. However, with around 5,000 nuclear weapons EACH, WW3 couldn't be won, by EITHER side. I think both sides realise this. Of course, there is a large propaganda 'value' in claiming a nuclear war can be 'won'. It's probably what the home 'audience' wants to hear. The reality, is VERY different.

While the Europeans had to rebuild their infrastructure and industries, the US took advantage of their huge lead in development. Due to very poor management and extremely immature foreign policies the US managed to squander their advantage (which they gained through pure luck, geographical location) in a very short period of time. We are witnessing the decline of the US empire. The US needs to give up its delusions of grandeur and agree to mutually beneficial cooperation with the rest the world. I'm not sure if they have such wisdom. I'm worried that they might be schizophrenic. The world has changed. Today the US doesn't sit safely across the ocean.' Russian weapons ended up in the hands of Abkhazians. Russian planes bombed civilian targets in the territory controlled by Georgia, and Russia provided its military vessels for shelling Sukhumi. The war ended with the separation of Abkhazia from Georgia, which was what Russia wanted. During the year of the war, 2,220 Abkhazian soldiers, supported by Russia, were killed.

Approximately 5,000 Russian soldiers were killed throughout the course of this war, which lasted for 20 months. According to the Union Committee of Soldiers’ Mothers of Russia, there were 14,000 that were killed.
