In May 1945 The Warsaw Pact was a collective defence treaty established by the Soviet Union and seven other Soviet satellite states in Central and Eastern Europe: Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland and Romania (Albania withdrew in 1968).
To counter this alliance , the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was created in 1949 by the United States, Canada, Great Britain and several other Western European nations to provide collective security against the Soviet Union.
Due to the collapse and dissolution of the Soviet Union, in 1991, the Warsaw Pact ceased to exist.
However, countries such Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland & Romania requested membership of NATO. Did you know, in 1954 even Russia asked to join NATO! 😂🤣😂🤣
So, NATO has got stronger, with more members joining, notably, recently, Finland & Sweden. Who, may I add, had NOT intention of joining NATO, until Russia invaded Ukraine! 😂🤣😂🤣
