  1. The US is forced to prioritize cars because it is a capitalist dictatorship. The ultra-rich have invested way too much money in fossil fuels and cars, and high-speed rail in North America would cause the ultra-rich to lose all those investments. They will not tolerate that, and they have the power to stop it dead, by threatening to crash the entire American economy if such projects are not killed off.
