  9. Basically the deck is way too heavily and dangerously stacked against regular North Korean people. Another horrible aspect of this is North Korea considers people who have escaped from its country to be fugitives, and North Korea has moles all over the region, even within South Korea itself, who secretly hunt down these people. So, even if a North Korean has successfully managed to get to South Korea, his or her life remains at risk, because if just the wrong person spots this escapee, he or she will end up right back in North Korea and will meet a gruesome, slow death. Essentially, North Korea is a prison, and you get a life sentence for simply being born there.
