Frankly if morale gets too bad it doesn't matter how many threats you make, desertion and other disobedience will happen en masse. The US had a huge problem maintaining discipline in Vietnam.

A lot of countries let you straight up buy citizenship - Cyprus for example. These guys definitely had a choice, they just didn't want to leave Russia because it'd hurt their income. It's just greed and cowardice at the end of the day.

  5.  @isaacbrown4506  That peaked a while ago and has leveled off now. Russia hasn't committed to any major offensives in a while, though. If there is a major offensive that might cause a spike in desertions. That's pretty much always the case - major offensives mean high loss of life. It takes a lot to convince soldiers to go "over the top".

If not, what's the point? Russia's war absolutely is imperialist but the US does so much stupid shit on the international stage that it certainly cannot claim moral superiority. None of the counties sending Ukraine military aid are doing so because it's the right thing to do. It's a proxy war with Russia, a grand geopolitical game that doesn't benefit ordinary people at all. And Ukraine can't compete with Russia indefinitely. Russia's military-industrial complex is ten times the size of Ukraine's. This is why Zelenskyy is constantly begging for military aid. That aid is keeping Ukraine in the fight for now but it'll dry up as the economic pressures on Ukraine's backers mount. All this because Zelenskyy wanted to (or was bribed or otherwise persuaded to) join NATO? This whole thing is the messy result of hawkish US foreign policy. Russia's war is stupid, but fundamentally reactionary. This is Victoria Nuland's mess and we're all stuck cleaning it up.

  15. We fight for a certain country in the Middle East that I cannot name without being shadowbanned. This country has a really big lobby that hands out big donations to politicians. This shapes US foreign policy to this country's advantage - our politicians (both parties) fall over themselves to give this country money and weapons. Every war we've had in the Middle East for the past 25 years has been for their benefit. It doesn't help ordinary Americans and it totally wrecks our image abroad. Also talking about this will get the entire media to shit on you.
