@knocksvsthemodernworld Stalin had a habit of disposing of his top lieutenants once they became too powerful or he no longer needed them. Look at what happened to that devil Yezhov.

@VladimirShest The solution, it seems, is not to attempt to create a socialist state - because every attempt thus far has resulted in an authoritarian nightmare OR collapsed within a year.

@poopsidoodlesjankins894 Seems like Georgia's got a weird ambiguous relationship with Stalin - they hate communism but still celebrate ol' Mr. Dzugashvili because he was Georgian?

@IceGnikDilf "Kulak" was a Soviet term that meant literally anyone that owned land and refused to hand it over to the state. Didn't matter if you were a peasant that owned half an acre, the Soviet Union would starve you to death for control of that scrap of land. After all that, collectivization of agriculture was a failure. The Soviet Union never produced enough food to feed its people and had to import from abroad. It didn't help that they endorsed the anti-scientific bullshit theories of Trofim Lysenko and slandered and imprisoned scientists who tried to refute them.

@yoshi3294 I find it pretty hilarious that Scottish nationalists want to pretend the Empire was a wholly English project Scotland was forced to go along with when actually the Empire was a joint venture all along. Scots were over-represented as colonial officials and were absolutely essential to building the Empire. Scotland profited greatly from the UK's colonial projects; Glasgow was the second wealthiest city in the UK during the height of the Empire. As with all nationalists, Scottish nationalists play fast and loose with history to smooth out the wrinkles and present themselves as unambiguous "good guys".

@nihluxler1890 The British Empire existed for far longer than the USSR and contained a far greater percentage of the world's population within its borders. If you want an example of how many people you can starve by forced agricultural collectivization, China is a fairer comparison. Mao starved anywhere between 15 and 50 million Chinese, depending on which estimate you trust.

@sammiller6631 Idiots don't understand that in any dictatorship you will be on the shitlist sooner or later because dictatorships need an endless list of external and internal enemies in order to survive.

@knocksvsthemodernworld I'm gonna guess you're like 16 or something. A lot of teenagers have a commie phase where they insist Stalin did nothing wrong. Growing up, becoming an adult and doing some reading tends to disabuse people of the notion Stalinism is something worth emulating.
