@Aconitum_napellus I love Poles too but I bugs me how middle-class Brits hate working-class Brits so much. If we're short of working class Brits who are willing and able to do necessary jobs it's because of our broken educational system, a welfare system that discourages low-paid work, useless unions and general social dysfunction. People used to be proud to be working-class, now it's a symbol of shame and failure and an excuse for the middle-class to demonstrate their virtue by sneering at people they're socially allowed to sneer at (the only -ism that's okay nowadays is classism). Honestly good for Poland; for all its faults it's a more functional society than today's England is. Partly why immigration slowed down. Partly Brexit, but also Poland's economy has grown and there's little reason to come to this miserable, dying island any more.

@Cavi587 Yeah we scapegoat like crazy here in the West too. Our governments also love corruption, it's just a little less blatant (most of the time... remember when Boris Johnson handed out a contract for ferries his friend's company that owned exactly 0 ferries?) Also, lobbying is basically just legalized corruption and we think that's "normal". C'est la vie...

@trillionbones89 The King might reduce the power of the aristocracy... but that's because he doesn't like competition. Royal absolutism was not good for the peasantry.

@anglaismoyen "Brutal" is accurate but "unprovoked" is factually untrue. Russia was responding to Ukraine moving closer to the EU. Is war a justifiable response to that? No, but "unprovoked" implies Putin did it for laughs or something. "Illegal" is irrelevant, because the USA engages in illegal wars all the time. The idea that there's a "rules-based international order" is a joke. Ask Gazans how they feel about it.

@anglaismoyen In your eyes it isn't, to Russia and Russia's allies it is. Ukraine aligning with the West and joining NATO is a threat to Russia. Would the USA ignore Mexico joining CSTO and allying with Russia? There are no absolutes in geopolitics. And no, pointing out that "illegal" is spurious isn't irrelevant. I'd like to disabuse you of the nation that the USA is a force for good in the world and the USA's geopolitical opponents are evil. It's more like every nation is some degree of bad.

@anglaismoyen I don't think the USA would be okay with Mexico and Canada cosying up to a country the USA doesn't like. NATO was created as an explicitly anti-Soviet alliance, and Russia is the successor of the Soviet Union. The perception that it compromises Russia's security should Russia so anger the United States that military action is on the cards isn't completely unfounded. It's not an adequate justification for invasion, but it's not unprovoked. You're using that word wrong.
