Strawman argument. Ukraine of course has the right to defend itself but my country (UK) is in a lot of debt and riddled with social problems. I don't want my government sending aid to Ukraine because the war is a stalemate that will eventually end in a negotiated peace anyway*; all sending aid does is drag it out and lead to more suffering. And cheap gas from Russia would help keep our energy bills down. So pragmatically speaking, I don't see how it benefits my country to get involved in this mess. We're sending aid because big daddy Uncle Sam wants us to, and Uncle Sam is only interested in crippling Russia and integrating Ukraine into its economic empire. *Negotiations are scheduled for January. Most likely the result will be a ceasefire, Russia will keep what it has taken and we can expect a return to 2014-style low intensity conflict in the future. Likely that Russia will insist Ukraine makes a binding commitment not to join NATO in return for withdrawing troops from Ukraine. Both sides are currently trying to make a push to gain whatever advantage they can before negotiations begin.

@crunchyfrog63 Okay, so? I don't care. That is in no way relevant to the points I made. It's a non-sequitur.

@jaysonb.6669 Yes, exactly. Ukraine has substantial mineral deposits and moderate natural gas and oil deposits. The eagle and the bear have been jockeying for influence since the collapse of the USSR - and it's not about democracy or nationalism.

@iwh7 Russia is simultaneously weak and fragile yet poses an existential threat to Western Europe. Pick one or the other. Claiming both at the same time is incoherent.

@jaysonb.6669 Absolutely, Madeline Albright was trying to get Uncle Sam's talons into Ukraine back in the 90s. Ukraine has substantial mineral deposits, natural gas and oil, and you know how Uncle Sam feels about that.

@iwh7 Not compatable. Russia poses zero military threat to my country. End of discussion.
3
@iwh7 It was also agreed that NATO would not expand further and that promise wasn't kept either.

@iwh7 The situation is not comparable and if you want to argue otherwise then learn to write coherently. Why should I value the opinion of someone who can't string together a sentence properly?
2
@iwh7 According to people like you Russia is somehow fragile and weak yet somehow still an existential threat to Western Europe. Pick one or the other.

@jaysonb.6669 Yes, exactly. Ukraine has substantial mineral resources and moderate natural gas and oil deposits. The eagle and the bear have been jockeying for influence in Ukraine since the collapse of the USSR - and it sure isn't about democracy or nationalism. I'd love to say more but I'll probably get my comment flagged for deletion by YouTube's AI.

@Pekka.Pekka.1296 I don't care about Russia or Ukraine. Why should I?
