@ It's usually economic crises that lead to the real problem. I like Zizek's take on Yugoslavia - the "off-colour" jokes were all good-natured fun until the economy stopped working. Then it got serious.

Notice how the "touchy feely stuff" got way more prominent after Occupy? The transformation of social democrats into censorious liberals was no accident. The ruling class got scared and found a way to neuter the Left.

@JuzzaDaMuzza What he's describing is more "social democracy" than "democratic socialism". Basically just capitalism with government intervention in certain areas of the economy plus a strong social safety net. While I'm sympathetic I personally don't think it's viable considering an ageing population, declining government revenues due to multinationals paying so little tax and the sheer amount of debt Western economies are in
