  1.  @BO-hh8mj  Makes sense. The AK is a first-generation assault rifle. Stoner's AR-10 prototypes came a whole 10 years later, and the AR-15 emerged after another 5 years of development. The net result? A lighter rifle firing a lighter, higher-velocity cartridge with an operating system designed to allow the rifle to recoil directly backwards without pivoting, better sights and much better ergonomics. Honestly, it's not even fair to compare the AR-15 to the AKM as most people do. The fair comparison would be AR-15 to AK-74. The Soviets realized the small, high-velocity cartridge was the way to go. That closes the gap a little, but the AR is still the better rifle.
