@Emper0rH0rde Chris Pratt seems to be doing alright. I remember when Twitter Marxists tried to cancel him for being a registered Republican - didn't go anywhere. Chris Pratt does the sensible thing and keeps his personal life personal. He doesn't argue with Internet-poisoned morons. I respect that.

@cecily3797 You're right, but I think you can admire an aspect of an artist's public persona without endorsing the questionable aspects of their private life.

@en9587 If you don't get it I'm not gonna explain further.

@en9587 The point was that the quote is still valid regardless. Hitler hated smoking - does that mean if you don't light up you're a Nazi?

@addison_v_ertisement1678 Nah, you're missing the forest for the trees. Refusing to take a stance on political issues is a perfectly valid choice. Nowadays, when everything in the public sphere is politicized and there's enormous pressure from the media to declare you have the "correct" opinion (an indictment of how rotten discourse has become if ever there was one), keeping silence on such matters is downright refreshing. There are plenty of public figures besides Elvis who refused to publicly endorse political causes. You're too focused on trying to "gotcha" people by discrediting Elvis in particular that you're sliding right past the main point. It's basically just the "but Hitler was a vegetarian!" argument. Yeah. So? Doesn't disprove the point, does it?

A de-jure liberal democracy that has an uncomfortable undertone of authoritarianism appeases its military-industrial complex by declaring war on the inhabitants of a desert nation for bullshit reasons. The leader of said desert nation is captured and tortured. Victory is declared in capital letters, but did anyone actually win anything? Anyone sane knows the war is a quagmire that cannot possibly be won. Starship Troopers or The War on Terror? Yeah. Remarkably prescient for 1997.
